SD59225U-HNI PTZ - Motor Servo Noise Transfer through house walls

Hi all

So last week I installed my brand new Dahua SD59225U-HNI PTZ (see attached pic) - I am absolutely over the moon with it although there is one downside. I've got the camera set to tour 5 different presets every 15 seconds and the noise of the movements seems to be transferred throught the walls of the house. You can actually hear it in the kitchen which is at the back of the house and the camera is on the front. It's one of those noises that if you're lying in bed at night it's irritating.

I've just added 4 rubber standoffs (see attached pic) which seems to have eased it a little but not massively.

Anyone else experienced this and come up with a better solution to reduce it/eradicate it completely?

What is your PTZ speed? Does it help if you lower it?

Just guessing a bit here -
It looks like from your pics that you've only bolted the corner bracket down on one side.
Is it possible that the unbolted side is only just touching the brick and vibrating against it?
Maybe experiment to see if a thin sheet of foam plastic or rubber between the right hand part and the brick changes anything.

Yes this is a problem. The rubber standoffs are not effective because you have bypassed them using bolts. Visit your local exhaust fitter (or ebay) for rubber mounts (with compatible nuts) having independent studs bonded to each side.

best thing to do is disable the tour. The tour is completely useless and ineffective.

No, it is definitely bolted on the other side just on the lower holes. I had an issue with the top fixing disappearing into the brickwork and I couldn't fish it out. I'm trying to avoid having to take the bracket off the the walls if I can help it because the fixing are a nightmare to fit the bracket over being on the corner. I may have to though.

You know what they say about presumption dont you..... one side is studded(independently) and the other one is threaded (independently) have clearance in the middle of the rubber because I can physically move the camera and can see the rubber flexing when I do.

Enlighten me please.....so far I've found it very effective. In time when my other cameras arrive I will be tying it with them for motion detection and preset activation.

Why would it burn the motor out? It"s a feature of the camera so I'm utilising it. If it burns out any motors it will be getting sent back. I've seen many other people state they've used such a facility on many similar cameras for over 3 years with no issues.

Perhaps you should enlighten me on how the criminals are going to know to be in the correct spot as the camera tours....

If you were a criminal wouldn't you find it more offputting to see a camera that's capable of constantly panning around various locations. That's if they even manage spot it's there at all especially at night. Why bother buying a PTZ camera at all and not use all its potential capabilities and features.

Because Dahua provides no warranty coverage unless you purchase from an authorized seller - highly unlikely.
If you think that criminals care about your cameras can you have not watched any videos posted on this website or YouTube.
It tour is foolish because as its touring it leaves the other areas uncovered.
You are correct you should not have bothered with a PTZ because it's the wrong choice for you and it's ineffective.

And, you could have bought 3 or 4 fixed cameras for what you paid for this PTZ. Or, (3) SD1A203T-GN cameras which still have the PTZ function but with less zoom. The point is, as Fenderman said, you will get better coverage with more fixed cams. It's just easier to track a perp via more cams. If I were a criminal and saw a PTZ panning around, I would just pick the time(s) it's looking elsewhere to duck into a blind spot to do my dirty work. I am not sure, but while the PTZ is on "tour", I don't think a trigger from a different camera will tell the PTZ to go to a specific preset. I haven't tested that yet on mine, but I for sure don't use the Tour function. It's pretty useless in my home environment.

Good job that I have bought another 2 fixed 8MP cameras (IPC-HDW5831R-ZE) that I am currently awaiting delivery on that will work in conjunction with the PTZ camera. I am well aware of how PTZ could potentially miss things - however similarly it would definitely miss things if it wasn't given the opportunity to pan to other areas. Oh and a motion detection trigger from another camera will work and will send a preset trigger to the PTZ provided you use an NVR which I will be doing (when it arrives).

So basically the tour is a nice added feature to have whilst the other 2 cameras are concentrating on the main areas I need covering.
