Would Andy’s New Model IPC-T5442T-ZE 4MP Starlight IR Vari-focal

Yes. I'm using it out to 75' currently.

Whoops. I read it as Z4E. Nevermind...

I have a 5442B-ZE watching our parking area, two cars worth. The view is on about a 30 degree angle at about 60 feet and I can read the plates very easily with a little digital zoom. I haven't played with it at night, increasing shutter speed, to specifically see if I can read them at night, but I suspect it could be done. Just be aware it might take a little digital zoom in BI to read them.

Note to self: Don't answer threads when I'm pooped. Too many typos.

While I do not have that exact cam, I have a B5442E-Z4E that is on the same 4MP 1/1.8" sensor but is a bullet and 8-32mm varifocal. I believe that your cam is 2.7-13.5mm?

Here is a shot at 18mm, 75 feet out, and directly head-on. The point is that at 18mm and 75 feet, with good light, the plate is big enough to read.

Here is one where I set the lens to 13.5mm and the car is about 50 feet from the cam.

If you want don't want to digital zoom, then I would I would probably go with the 8-32 if I could have convinced my wife on the need for the extra cost, I think i would have gotten that one for my mailbox and used the this one out back to view one of the sides of the house from the shed. I can read plates out to about 60 feet with my 2.7-12 without issue, but a little extra zoom would have been nice on my old eyes.

Here's a quick experiment at 1/2000 with about 2x digital zoom from a few minutes ago. Fooling with focus and shutter would probably help a bit, but it is readable -

That one at 18mm was all defaults. I was trying out locations on a test rig. Once I installed the cam, I settled with 26mm.
