Windows 10 Home RDP, or lack thereof

So, I just bought a pc to run BI as a stand alone pc to get it off my primary laptop and came to the abrupt realization that Win 10 home has the RDP functionality stripped from it:angry:. This all but dashed my hopes of viewing BI remotely on my laptop as the stand-alone will be in a closet.

So, I just spent about 5 hours chasing ways to get Windows 10 home to function as in the Pro version only to be disappointed. I did come across one promising "fix" involving a wrapper but alas, it didn't work as others found out too.

So after this long winded semi-rant, I'm asking what you guys are doing for remote viewing? Aftermarket apps? Recommendations for remote apps are appreciated but please, please have some experience with the app you're recommending because I can do a search on the web too.:rolleyes:
 
For remote access to the BI PC. If viewing camera recording or live view then theUI3 that comes with BI.

Huh? RDP is a computer to computer remote viewing application allowing one of the computers to reside elsewhere, in this case a closet, and be viewed remotely.

I think most here know what RDP is and it’s function, the suggestion was to use UI3 if you want to access BI remotely.

Anyway have you tried installing RDPWrap I use it on all my Windows 10 devices but I don’t have Home but looking around the suggestion is that it should work. The original install/zip hasn’t been updated for a while so you will need to grab the .ini file and copy over the existing once you’ve installed it.

I'll try the .ini swap if I can find it but I've read on a couple threads and in some recent videos on YT that as of the last Win update that the RDPWrap doesn't work anymore. When you say that you don't have Home do you mean you have Win10 Pro? If so as far as I know you don't need RDPwrap on Win10 Pro . What the heck is UI3? Is that an app?
 
UI3 is a web based app that allow you to connect directly to BI and view/manage (permissions dependant) your cams and clips.

My BI PC is running 1903 Win10 Pro, the zip for RDWrap doesn't work as is but if you grab the latest .ini file and copy it over the current/old then it does. I use RDPWarp on Pro as it allows me more than one connection, so when I RDP to my BI box rather than taking over the main console window I actually logon as a 2nd user so the console is still usable.

Gotcha on the RDP. The UI3 I'll need to do some more research. I loaded a phone app to my phone a few years ago for BI viewing but I don't recall what it's name is. This whole exercise I'm going through right now is to move BI off my laptop (which I use for Fusion CAD work) and onto a dedicated machine located in a closet. I don't want to lose the ability to view alerts on my laptop though, hence my quest for remote viewing.
I also got roped into helping a relative with his home installation of 7 Hik cam's and am trying to convince him to go with BI on a pc in lieu of an NVR.....If he sees mine he'll probably like it.
 
If you plan to move BI to a different computer you could purchase a Windows 10 Pro license to ensure you have RDP access. Otherwise, search forums and you'll get this thread where everyone mentions their favorites: What do you use for Blue Iris server remote access

You can view alerts via ui3 which is the webserver. Or with two bi5 licenses you can view remotely view the desktop instance on your laptop. See help file. You can buy a second license for 30/35 bux, email support.

I don't like RDP much so I use Tight VNC on all of my machines. It's free and easy to setup. For basic client based viewing, UI3 is great.

To access from the outside, Team Viewer or LogMeIn to one machine and then TightVNC to rest.

Thumbs up for Teamviewer over WAN. I'm using Anydesk over LAN because it's disgustingly simple to use.
