Where is the option to record 24/7 in Xprotect 2017?

Hey,

I need help. My cameras are currently only recording on motion detection in Milestone Xprotect 2017. I never had any difficulty finding the recording settings (on motion detection, 24/7) in Xprotect 2016. I want to record 24/7 for X numbers of days but I can't find the options anywhere. Is it gone?

I only know how to do this on the server, I set the camera properties to record keyframes only, which gives me 1 frame each second. Then I have it triggered by PIR to record at 20 fps.

If you want it to record continuously at 30fps, just unclick "Record Keyframes Only" and it will. But this is not set to a time limit, like X number of days.

You're using Xprotect 2016?

From your screenshot: the recording properties is the tab with the options that I can't find in Xprotect 2017. I don't want to do anything fancy with motion detection, I just want to move from motion detection to record 24/7 (always).

Screensoht of what I'm looking for:

I'm on 2017 R1.

I get to this menu under Server>Advanced Configuration>Camera and Storage Information>CAMERA>Properties>

But this R2 looks all different.

Haven't played with R2 yet, I hear it's still a bit new/buggy? I think I'll stay away until R3.

What if you deselect motion detection and set a schedule for 24/7 and set a rule to record off of that schedule

Hi. Signed up so I can post a solution to the question by the OP and any others looking for the same.

To enable 'Always Record' for a camera on XProtect Essential+ 2017 R2, all you need to do is create and Activate a new Rule. The rule Definition should be as similar to the following:

Code:
Perform an action in a time interval
always
start recording immediately on All cameras

Perform an action when time interval ends
stop recording immediately
All cameras can be changed to an individual camera or a group of cameras

This works and you can also set the bitrate up for when there is motion but there is a problem with skipping to the next motion sequence in Smart Client. Since it is one long recording it doesn't skip to the motion detection instances. However, in the 2016 version I was able to set to always only record keyframes and set the frame rate up when there was motion and Smart Client would skip to those start/stop instances. I haven't figured out a good way to do this on the new version.

Has anybody found a work around for the motion sequence events while on 24/7 recording?
I was wondering if there may a way to create a rule to simulate or trigger the motion sequences that use to exist.
I upgraded to 2017 R3 Essentials+ without thinking it would be such a problem. I have been using Xprotect for years happily but with this feature not working I am reconsidering my software choice

Hey

I also rolled back to older version to get this functionality back (continuous recording with motion sequences)

Anyone know if the 2018 version has fixed this?

I tried on 2018 and when you have an always record rule running you can't skip to just motion sequences with the buttons. Yes this still sucks.

There is still an option to record continuously in 2018 r1, right?
I have tried setting "record keyframes only" in 2018 r1 but it seem to do that only when motion is detected.

you have to setup a "Rule" that triggers the recording. There isn't an easy button to click to make it work.
