What about this port forwarding software?

In the help section of BI, there is a link to a software that sapositly reconfigures a router, assigns and or tests fixed or static IP addressees etc. Anyone familiar with this SW? Is it worth the $40.00?

Don't buy it. If someone can't figure out how to configure their network the normal way, then this tool would only be providing access to settings they don't understand.
 
Just to add a 3rd point of reference - DON"T BUY IT :)

This is going to give you nothing more than a Youtube video on port forwarding. You will also/always still need to manually change some settings for port forwarding so this can't be a one size fits all solution. Don't get taken for $40

OK Thanks, I get the Idea. Apparently there are no shortcuts. My thought was that most of the help instructions are loaded with general instructions, and akronums that require a network science dictionary to interpurit. So I'll Slog through it one issue ate a time, noting that the devil is in the details.

My link above has a lot of stuff you don't really have to know. IIRC you have a technical background just not in networking, which is why I thought you might be interested in something more thorough. I certainly wouldn't expect a mastery of all the topics but it would help familiarize you with a pretty broad range of networking topics.

Rather than forward ports to your cams / nvr / bi box set up a VPN server, see nayr's thread on the subject.

Here's some less complicated stuff that might be a better place to start (youtube videos aren't bad either):

I use You-Tube and Wikipedia a LOT. My background is engineering, but is mechanical. I do enjoy a challenge however in most things. I have done a lot of computed programing in my day so as a user i'm ok for the most part, but networking is new for me.
