Hi All

I want upgrade my NVR hard drive from 1TB to 2TB, I have never done this before does any one have any pointers or experience on doing this. My NVR is POE and I have a total of 5 cameras.

NVR model is DS-7608NI-K2 / 8P
cameras are DS-2CD2347G1-LU

It is simple.

The operating system is in NVR not the drive.

Simply unplug the NVR
Take off the case
Unplug the HDD
Take out the 4 or so screws holding the HDD
Remove HDD
Put in new HDD
Put screws back in
Plug cables into HDD
Put case back on
Plug in NVR
It may ask you to format the drive

Thank you, can I just confirm all the settings, alerts, etc are on the NVR not the HDD ?

Think of it this way. The HD stores all of your video. When the present drive is removed all of the video goes with that drive. The new drive will be blank.

As best I can recall, all of your camera settings are stored in each camera. NRV settings are stored in the NVR. One can run an NVR without a hard drive but without a drive the NRV will not record any video. One can setup the the NVR, view camera video and setup each camera. Depending on model, a notification message may appear stating that No Drive is Installed.

Looks like the WD purple 4TB runs about $85 plus or minus.

Some of the Hikvision specifications.
  • SATA2 SATA interfaces
  • Capacity Up to 10 TB capacity for each HDD
  • Incoming Bandwidth 80 Mbps
Depending on recording needs, 2 TB is not a lot of space. One option is to add the 2nd drive while keeping the 1st drive in place. In many cases there is a pre installed power cable for the 2nd drive, but perhaps not a SATA cable.
