Update BI not working after new install

I'm on BI version 4.8.6.3 64, or I used to be before I had to reinstall BI because of recurring errors. I'm trying to update from the installed version which is 4.4.2.0. It says update avaialble but nothing is downloaded. I just get this error message saying: "Update failed:2147471603".
 
You're a full version behind the current version which is in the 5.3.x.x range. If you haven't kept your maintenance up, as in paid for it, you will not be able to upgrade. Sorry to bring you potentially bad news.

I'm not trying to update to version 5. I just want the latest patch for the version I paid for -which is version 4.8.6.3
 
There's an archive here on IPCT somewhere with a lot of the older versions in it. The version you have is no longer supported by BI.

You can download the full version which consists of the latest update from the blue Iris website. As an aside unless you purchased blue Iris within the last year before blue Iris five was released you did not pay for the update. Even with bi4 there was a provision That allows updates for one year only. The developer graciously allowed users to update for free. Blue Iris five is significantly improved and the $35 upgrade is a no brainer

I will gladly pay$35 for upgrade -how to go about it? There's a lot of confusion here concerning this. By the way I bought BI in 2016.
