Heard on the local Nextdoor.com about recent car burglaries in the area, so have been watching goings on a little closer lately.

Reviewing email alerts from my driveway camera as do each morning over coffee, I notice a vehicle out of place coming IN to the neighborhood at 3:14am (a short cul-de-sac street with "Dead End" sign at the entrance)

They only checked this one vehicle, the one parked in front of the pole with 3 cameras and a big hunkin sign that says 'Neighborhood Under Video Surveillance"

Tag was in pretty bad shape but was able to get it from our 3 LPR cams. Y46-ATX

Just proves that criminals really are stupid.
Or they just don't care. Probably under 18 and knows nothing will happen even if caught. They picked the car under the most light, with the cams right there. It's like "I dare you to catch me"

Yep

I have additional views of the vehicle. The exit tag cam is an old Axis and no IR but close enough to the streetlight to usually get great reads. It had defaulted during a violent lightning storm the other day and I missed getting the settings right. (since fixed)

So what can you do with the recordings if no crime was committed? Can you alert the police or do you just go on higher alert?

Both in this case. I have no crime so can’t file a complaint. But I was able to coordinate with another homeowner who had a lot of things stolen in another neighborhood a mile away and provide LE with video of the vehicle, show there were 4 occupants, and provide a Tag #

No idea if the tag was stolen but at least they now have something concrete to look for.

Typically when someone's cam picks up a door checker that did not gain access, if you find out that someone's vehicle in that area was burglarized that same night the police will welcome any video and snapshots you give them. I have done this a few times this past year. The local police have actually asked me if I had any video of people/vehicles on a specific night when these perps were active.

I had a neighbor that lost a stack of copper he had saved, back when the prices were high.
He asked if I had any video that would help, so I was able to give him a video of the truck coming
down the road empty and leaving full.
Back then the quality was not the best, but with the multi colored
vehicle it was not hard to find it again at the salvage yard.

Just share it on nextdoor.com. .. I am sure their parents are a member of nextdoor and they will be spilling their coffee after seeing their own car being used in criminal activities by their teenager children.
