The hail damage is one of the biggest reasons why we decided not to get solar panels after our new roof was put on. The other was the cost. Just didn't seem to make sense (cents).

That’s a fairly safe “chunker”. There’s been a fair bit of development in the wood gas field. It was big around WW2, but it’s got a growing base. Guys are running in everything from bikes, tractors, cars, to pickups. One group does a yearly meetup in Argos Indiana and drive from all over. The EU guys gotta fly though.

Hmmmmm.... imagining toroids on wind power turbines--- maybe they could use much smaller blades and achieve the same generating power while the structure supports less weight and has less wear on moving parts.
EDIT: check the comments on that video. Apparently that design does not scale up very well at all. Also-- lots of criticism regarding the inability to alter the blade pitch for aircraft...
