The chicken tax at work. There is a 25% tariff on light trucks unless built in the US. If these pickups are imported fully assembled, they are charged 25% tariff. So they must be imported in complete knockdown kits and assembled stateside.

Actually, its more that states don't want to register them due to questionable compliance with DOT regulations, from what I've read. The chicken tax is only for new vehicles, and these are old enough to be exempted from this.^^^^
