some cameras to be connected to two NVR's

Just need some reassurance on this:

One CCTV setup: four cameras on a simple Ethernet switch recorded by a generic NVR. Another CCTV setup nearby: five cameras on a Dahua NVR.

I plan to run about 60 meters of Ethernet connecting the two switches. I will set the Dahua to view the primary channel of some of the other system's cameras. To conserve drive space, I will set the Dahua to record only the secondary channels of those cameras.

The outdoor cabling run won't be fun but technically it's all eezy-peezy, right?

Hmm. As an experiment, I tried to set one of the cams connected to my Dahua 4108-4Ks2 to record only substream 1. There was no complaint when I clicked on Apply and OK but nothing got recorded. Any suggestions?
