Hi all

Having some trouble perhaps check my post history I was just running a systm without a NVR but I just purchased an NVR an 8 channel Hilook

So I had a working system and basically disconnected my 4 port POE switch plugged the Lan cable into the back on the NVR plugged my cameras into the NVR POE but it wont find any of the cameras. I have switched them to ONVIF for protocol as I was advised still wont find anything. I can Login to the web based GUI for the NVR as its running on my lan 10.0.0.17 It will not find any online cameras or detect anything.

Can somebody help the cameras Im trying to use are honeywell HEW4PR3 I think. the old way of finding them was using 10.0.0.10 but now i cant find them cant find them on my config tool either and the NVR wants to search or has them down and 192.168.254.... etc?

Any help appreciated

Im not just getting it. Do I just go into the camera we based GUI i currently have it opened through my old POE switch only. Should i just change the box from static to dhcp?

I can see on my local network the nvr lan address is 10.0.0.17 and i can login and acces its web based GUI. Its trying to connect the cameras through 192.164... is this right or do I have to manually change it

Yes they must be the same. Adjust nvr to be 192.164.xxxx to match cams. And the nvr should be static but cams are assigned via nvr

SO I changed the camera to dhcp and now it has made the local address 10.0.0.19 How to I make the NVR get the camera online the nvr is 10.0.0.17 and its default poe ip addresses are 192.168.254.2 and each poe port an so on changes by one at the end. I have onvif selescted and are using the cameras log in details

So it has the same ip range. Good. Now you should be able to add camera using login credentials. They may be default or if ever setup custom login

So I have a camera setup ip address 10.0.0.10. my nvr is 10.0.0.17 it wont connect to the camera. It is trying to ip adreess 192.168.254.2? How do i make it all correct so it works please

Ive been stuffing with this all day long its frustrating me no end. Basically I can get my cameras up and working on the original poe switch as soon as I plug them into the NVR though I get nothing.... I dont understand

I have managed to get the cameras online but the lights are flashing like crazy cant get any live feeds whatso ever basically useless. They say online which is a start but no view. I hav this going through my poe switch and the cameras are plugged into the poe switch and then the nvr is just plugged into the back of the router. I give up

Ok So I have managed to get them working but what im annoyed about is I dont want to use my existing POE Switch. Why does it only worked hookep up to this and no other way?

I'll wager that it's because the Hilook NVR is OEM'd by Hikvision and the Honeywell cameras are OEM'd by Dahua so they won't setup on the NVR's POE ports (subnet "A") and instead must use the POE switch via LAN with unique static IP's that are on the same subnet as the NVR's LAN (subnet "B").

Thanks for the reply guessing I have no way to fix this? I just dont really understand this stuff. Most people use an ip adress around 196. mine has always been 10.0.0. I would just like to really get rid of the switch im not even sure if I have it setup properly

why cant i just take away the old poe switch i dont even know how i set that up in the first place would it have an ip adress as well

I explained in post #12

Not if it's a simple, unmanaged switch which it likely is.

When you plug a POE camera into a NVR's POE port the NVR wants to put that camera on a private subnbet such as 10.X.X.X to isolate the cameras from the Internet.

If there's compatibility issues between the POE camera and the POE NVR then you must instead employ a separate, external POE switch and assign unique, static IP addresses to the cameras and to the NVR's LAN, all on the subnet, also of the private variety, outside of the router's DHCP pool and generally 192.X.X.X.

I didn't make the rules.

So I thought I would try something this morning... Have you got anyway of proving what you mentioned above may be the issue or not? I'm just worried its something I'm doing or cant setup manually? I hard resetted a honeywell cam this morning and changed my internet settings to the below as per previous post so I can logon to the camera

internet is setup to run with the ip addresses automatically assigned so I cant see what they are the only way I can get the camera working is by disabling my internet and changing the ip address to 192.168.1.100 and subnet to 255.255.255.0. The camera ip is 192.168.1.108. I can logon to the camera web based GUI when it is connected through the existing POE Switch, I then decided to plug the camera into the NVR port and it wont find it at all?

What could I be missing or try to get this working ??

Thanks

@TonyR has explained it - the NVR acts as a router/firewall and in essence assigns an IP address that is different than the rest of your internet.

I am sure it exists, but I have yet to see an NVR that doesn't operate this way.

The NVR would have to have an option to bridge mode to basically turn off the router/firewall of the NVR ports. But even then it still may not work correctly.

Best practice is to match NVR brand with camera brand, and since you have competing manufacturers (and an additional layer of consumer-ized devices) they are not playing nice with one another.

Since you have competing systems, your options are:

  • Get a Dahua OEM NVR and use your existing cameras (that are made by Dahua) or
  • Get a Hikvision OEM cameras and use your existing NVR (that is made by Hikvision) or
  • Scrap the whole system and buy same brand NVR and cameras or
  • Use the external switch and connect it to the WAN/LAN of the NVR and manually assign the cameras into the NVR.

OK so I think my Brain has just managed to function this morning it seems I have got it working now I have tested on cam running through the NVR it all works!!!! So basically I set the cam to the ip address assigned by the NVR which for each channel is

192.168.254.2 channel one
192.168.254.3 channel two and so on up until 8 channels

The NVR is suppose to operate on 192.168.254.1 now my mistake was I think when I set up the cam in its we based GUI I wasnt putting in the default gateway to be 192.168.254.1 as soon as I did this and plugged it into the back of the NVR the one I tested i working.

I guess now I hard reset all the cams?

Does this seem right though as before when I setup the NVR its ip address was 10.0.0.17

At the moment its working on both old POE and 1 cam working just plugged into the nvr

So I have 5 cameras installed on it now but it wont record motion and pictures etc.... I have been mucking around with the NVR Settings im assuming now I will have to pull each camera off the nvr and put back into the POE port log into them and set the honeywell options up to help record etc.... This is massive painful if that's the case.

anyone know how I can log back into the camera settings when I have it connected back to POE switch which runs a 10.0.0.x ip address and the camera is 192.168.254.x

I cant login on the web browser at 192.168.254.x ive also tried a config tool it finds the camera and the POE switch but once again it wont let me login into it even though I know I'm using the correct login details and password?
