Testing out my 4k front door cam IPC-HDW5831R-ZE that I got from Andy a while back.

I think this is some tougher lighting conditions with the subject in the shade, bright sun and snow on the ground. This is just the stock plug and play settings. I decided to try a 4k cam at the location to get the best possible image of a person in a spot with good lighting. I am just learning to capture and export the videos so here goes. I am going to have to try and watch this on a 4k TV instead of my older laptop.

I had tinkered with that a little bit did not find what I liked when the sun was totally behind the house. I have a ton of learning to do yet. I was happy just figuring out how to save clips both off my phone and the computer to today. Thanks for the tip. This snow on the ground really seems to make the porch seem darker. When I played with this before without the snow I had better results.

A little bit goes a long way, no more than 20. I dont care for the way it messes with the image color either, but some locations demand it. My back porch/pool for instance..

With the white car and the snow, this is a tough situation.
You can try BLC as well.
Most likely, you will have to adjust for faces on the porch, and forgo having a good shot towards the street.
 
Great camera. One observation, this looks slightly low. When he walks right up to the door he disappears off the top of the camera. I'm guessing the mounting is around 4 feet from the picture. personally I'd have it around 5.5-6ft. Other than that, looks great.

It is mounted a touch lower than would have been my first choice. I had a choice of what I considered too high above the light, or getting a little higher by ditching the address plate which I did not want to do.. This was a compromise working with the cards I was given and where I could reasonably fish wire to. I think I may also put a camera to the right of the door in this pic where I have more canvas to work with for mounting options and cover someone at the front door from the reverse angle. It will loose the good approach of someone walking up.

I know how to turn off and on WDR on the NVR for the cameras but not how to set it to a percentage like you can do with some of the other image controls.

I understand, sometimes compromises have to be made. Personally I'd have swapped the position of the address plate and camera by moving the plate. That said, with the light above, it's possible having the camera so close to the light, that light spill might adversely affect the picture (it depends how much leaks downward really - that's where bucket and plank testing comes to the fore). It also has to be said you'd have had 4 holes left in the wall from the plugs for the address plate, I see a few previous already. The plugs could have been pulled out and filled with a dyed cement to get a close match to the brick, but equally I understand you might not want to have more holes on show.

You have to login into the actual camera interface and do it there..dnt try and use the image controls on the NVR
 
Following as my front door camera is also positioned with the sun shining over the house creating that bright vs shadow situation. Made worse by the snow.

I have several cameras up front and one is specifically for catching people at the door. So I may play with those settings and if I loose a good view of something else in the process it’s no big deal since another camera would catch it. Although my front door is the only configurable IP camera up front. The rest are HDCVI where I can’t change their settings... soon to be replaced with IP.

You can change all of the same settings in CVI cameras, just can’t switch exposure setttings between day and night as there is only 1 profile

I'll have to take a look again! Once I learned of this forum and moved to Blue Iris, streaming all those cameras from the DVR, I never logged back into the DVR again.

Depending on the model you get additional controls, but still all of the basic and exposure settings are there. Access via the PTZ drop down on the NVR in View mode

Mine is an old Lorex LHV2016S DVR. I can change saturation, brightness, etc in the DVR. I can also enable PTZ for the cameras and access the controls to bring up the PTZ menu, but no on screen menu actually comes up to configure it on the camera itself. It's truly not a huge deal for me as I only have 9 of these cameras and plan to replace them all at once soon. Their low-light leaves much to be desired. I'm not even sure what the model number of these cameras is.

A buddy of mine just bought a house so when he is ready I am going to place one large order with Andy for both our houses $$

That looks like the DVR machine interface?. Try the Web interface,..

Thank you I found that!!! I have also found where the IVS set up is now. I have not come across a tutorial for how to do that if there is one. i am going to try a little bit of the WDR and see how that works on the front door cam.
