Running network wire underground for IP cameras?

I want to mount two IP cameras hidden in a decorative box on my mailbox. I want to use Hikvision POE cameras, so I need to run two network wires in conduit about 30 feet from the house. What provisions do I need to consider so lightning won't damage cameras or other network attached equipment? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

All you can really do is grounding: the mailbox, the camera bases (if metal, scrape away a bit of paint, drill a hole and use self-tapping screw for ground wire loop). Pound in a grounding rod at the mailbox and connect the above. At the house, you can usually locate a hose bib and perform the same on that end.

Lookup "Ethernet Surge Protector" on Amazon or other sites and check out the devices. It's recommended to to have one where the cat5/6 enters the house and they'll even pass POE.

Is the conduit already existing? If not, it's probably worth your time (and money) to just get cat5 waterproof direct burial cable.
