Hi folks,great community here!
I am new to this whole thing and my wife who works in the basement of our house would like to monitor outside activity.
I too could see it as a night monitoring scenario as regards to security.
I have average computer skills, but wondered if the set up of Blue Iris / cameras etc would be too overwhelming as opposed to an nvr?
I would like to start with one camera and add more as needed.I see the cost of nvrs seems to exceed the BI option(I could be wrong here)
Any advice appreciated
Thanks
Shawn
Thanks

Windows PC + cost of BI vs NVR? You might save $100 if thats makes a huge difference to you

Regardless, if you want to tinker and have a bit more flexibility with 3rd party add ons, BI is probably better.

If you want simpler, reliable but every bit as powerful go with an NVR.

Like the Windows PCs, NVRs come in different flavors and capabilities. Both will have a learning curve regardless

There is a big debate here on which is better.

Neither one is plug-n-play. You still have to dial either one into your field of view and situation.

Having both, I personally find BI to be faster and easier and more flexibility. But others think that with an NVR.

Here is the search tool of all the NVR versus BI comparisons:

Keep in mind an NVR is simply a watered down computer....

If you sit in one ecosystem (like everything Dahua), then Dahua NVR will give You access to more AI features done on cams...
And it will be much more easy to configure... And to use by owners...

In last week I done 3 new house installations for "normal people"...
Everything Dahua - mostly 5442 + TIOC-PRO, Dahua intercoms, sometimes 5849-180, sometimes 7442-Z4 for ANPR/Video MetaData for street traffic .

Everywhere I put NVR under TV (in some tv cabinet) in living room and give 24/7 access to live view over main house TV...
Usually 3x3 view + AI stream with last 5 AI events (human/cars cutouts + IVS event / Video MetaData or AcuPick attributes) simply by press HDMI 1 button on tv remote..

All owners quickly understood the NVR interface....
How to use SEARCH AI module to search & play IVS / AcuPick / Video Meta Data (human, cars) events..
How to PLAYBACK footage from past...

All was very happy that HDMI/mouse interface in TV and web interface using web browser looks / works almost the same..

Bigger problem was DMSS (Dahua mobile app)..
and that DMSS is very basic comparing to NVR interface..
And sometimes works sometimes not :(
