Getting the hang of it

Hi,

First time install of an Empiretech PTZ425DB on a family members home. Hoping someone with more experience with this unit can help me with adjustments.

1. Auto tracking - I’ve setup per the videos shared on forum, great instructions. My IVS rule works, PTZ tracks both vehicles and humans. What I’m noticing is the zoom in function during tracking. Seems to be hit or miss. Is there something I can adjust to where it zooms in regularly when tracking? More so to capture better details of human and vehicle it is tracking.

Video example of where it tracks but doesn’t zoom in, instead zooming out

2. I’ve set up the PTZ for general record and IVS. I have noticed that when playing back that the general recording seems to jump to the IVS recording and miss some of the recording. Not a smooth transition. Both recording are of main stream and on an Empiretech NVR8CH-8P-2AI. Is there a better way to capture both continuous and events without potential loss of video?

Appreciate any support!

Start at 25, then move up or down 1 step at a time until you get the zoom you like.

I’m not seeing a setting like this in the auto tracking page. That’s what I’m trying to adjust. I can increase sensitivity and maybe that will start to zoom in more when tracking?

It is towards the top right of the IVS page - almost hidden and should be lower LOL.

The sensitivity has nothing to do with zooming in - it is Tracking Target Size Ratio that determines how much it zooms in when tracking. If the number is too small, the object stays small. If the number is too large, it may miss part of the object and/or lose tracking easier. You have to find that balance.

Thanks wittaj

You weren’t joking about it being almost hidden. Have not noticed this. I’ll tinker with it and hopefully that will correct my issue.

@wittaj seeking more assistance on this if you would be so kind.

I did a lot of testing at night with the sensitivity setting that you have recommended. Seemed to be dialed in. Though, now I'm seeing that the camera will track and sometimes get stuck going back to the HOME preset, then pick up tracking again. Clip below shows this. I've also added a few IVS rules to the HOME preset for this PTZ in hopes that I'll get more consistent tracking. IVS rules are an intrusion box, tripwire, and fast moving box in image below. Day time is rock solid when you look at that, tracks vehicle and zooms in tight. Trying to get night dialed in similar to this. Any other recommendations?

Additional question, I've set up the stream per the below picture. Thinking to drop the frame rate a bit more, maybe to 8? My objective is to be able to have more clarity in the recordings to pause and possibly see a license plate. I know it would be better to go with a dedicated license plate camera which I'll likely due in the future, though, if I can improve on my recordings to potentially capture with this PTZ that is a bonus.

Bumping up, appreciate any input.

Night time is always the trouble one.

The headlights and changing light conditions makes it easier for the algorithm to miss.

You may have to drop tracking size down a bit for night time so it sees more of the vehicle as it gets closer to the camera.

Thanks wittaj. Tracking size is universal from what I understand, no way to change during day and night profiles, correct? I’ll continue to tweak it.

Is it better to run IR at night vs color to aide the algorithm?

How about the stream settings, anything I can play with there? I referenced a post I believe from you on those settings.

You set up two presets - one for day and one for night.

The AI usually does better with color, but one needs the light.

You could up the bitrate and see if it improves the image.

Appreciate it. I’ll try this out and see if I get better results.
