Dear friends,

I got Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC320 8TB. It works well when I tested it with my PC.

I installed it in my NVR5216-16P-4KS2E. After turning switch on, the nvr beep 4 times.

Then, I logged in to NVR to HDD manager. My NVR found HDD, but status shows “error”

If you have any ideas, please help.

Thank you very much,

Machine supports up to 10TB, but no mention of 4Kn support. Could this be the issue?

"4K native (4Kn) is a drive with sectors that contain 4096 (4K) bytes."

Cheers, Steve
I thought drives currently, during the switch over period can also emulate 512e, no? Looking at the specs of the drive it seems to suggest it can.

I had a quick look and left with the understanding that "native" means there's no emulation layer available, so the system must have the ability to directly handle "4k".

I think you're onto something there, just looked up the model number and the N6 in it does mean Native 4K whereas a model that supports 512e would have E6.

Thank you for your replies,
I didn’t realize that it is 4kn HDD.

Will it be possible that this issue will be resolved by the future firmware update?

I did try formatting with the NVR....no luck

I tried it as both primary or secondary and also with both SATA ports.... no luck

Thank you,
Hi @HunkyWunky

Current firmware on the NVR?

If so, we should let Andy know the issue so he can pass it back to his contacts at Dahua and their software engineers can work on it.

Hi Andy @EMPIRETECANDY - can you pass this information up to your tech contacts at Dahua? Or does your tech team have a solution to resolve this?

Issue:
Unable to add HDD to NVR5216-16P-4KS2E

NVR:
NVR5216-16P-4KS2E
3.216.0000000.0 build date: 2018-05-30

HDD:
Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC320 8TB
SATA, Advanced 4Kn format
part no: 0b36396 FW:410

User attempted:
1) I did try formatting with the NVR....no luck
2) I tried it as both primary or secondary and also with both SATA ports.... no luck
3) HDD and PC: it works well with my PC

Thank You
