NVR5216-16P-4KS2 Setup

I just purchased a NVR5216-16P-4KS2 for use with ~8 Dahua cameras. My previous experience has been with a netgear swich and BI. Do I just plug all the cameras into the NVR and power it on or do I need to reconfigure each camera one at a time with a new IP before connecting it to the NVR? The NVR will be initially setup with no internet access as the location it will be installed doesn't have internet and we rely strictly on a hotspot for internet.

Hi upstech76,

Just plug in the cameras if they are Dahua OEMs, and it works! ;-)

( my cameras are also isolated at this time, only connected briefly to ntp sync )

Just a suggestion but if you are less concerned about security ( others potentially being able to access cam footage over an open network) and more concerned about having the ability to view cams remotely than the easy4ip feature works great in this situation!
 
It sounds like the NVR is new but the cameras are not. If the cameras have been used elsewhere, just make sure the network settings have DHCP enabled.

All equipment will be new, this is a separate installation going in a secondary location.
 
I have set up a few of the 16 channel NVRs you speak of, Test all of your cams before you plug them into the NVR and yes make sure they are set to DHCP. Connect them one at a time, and go into the setup on the NVR and set them back to static after the DHCP server on the NVR gives them a IP address, they will keep the same IP the NVR has given them. I have run into issues with the NVR not seeing the cameras after adding cameras. Make sure you update the firmware in the cams first and the NVR before you set sail with your system.
 
Can I install a single hard drive or does it require both be installed? If two are installed does it mirror or double capacity?

Hi Upstech76, you can install only 1 HDD if you like. Adding another gives you additional capacity.
