If I use this NVR with my ptz, am I able to record continuously BUT, still have the ability to look at events that are triggered by a rule in a given preset? If I get this, I’ll buy Blue Iris as well to help manage it.

Yes you can.

But why buy an NVR and Blue Iris? They are each a stand alone VMS (Video Management System) that are independent of one another.

Simply pick one. Blue Iris won't manage the NVR or talk to it or vice versa.

Now having used NVRs and now BI, I feel BI is way more robust.

Do a search here for BI versus an NVR and look at the pros and cons of each and then pick the one best for you.

I did just that just now. I ASSumed I wanted a NVR running 24/7. Rolling with BI.
