NVR5208-8P-4KS2E + IPC-T5442T-ZE Buffer problem, recording unusable.

I've been running this combination for some time.

I've always pushed the buffering onto the old 1TB hard drive that I still had lying around.

Now I've upgraded to a WD Purple 6TB internal hard drive.

The old hard drive has been thrown out.

The buffering is still there.

I hope someone sees the video and knows straight away what the problem is.
I'm not using the NVR's POE.

Connection plan:
PC, Fritzbox 7490 (Power Mode: 1 Gbit/s), POE Switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005P) 2x IPC-T5442T-ZE+ 1xIPC-T5442TM-AS-3.6

The NVR is connected to the Fritzbox (Power Mode: 1 Gbit/s).

As an experiment, I operated a camera (IPC-T5442T-ZE) directly on the NVR POE, and here too there is the same buffering in the recordings.

I'm simply attaching a few photos of the settings on the NVR and the camera, maybe there's an error somewhere?

Actually I think there's something else to it.
My 16P (same NVR) does it also. It's not buffering, if you look closer you'll see its actually skipping the IVS recording.
The NVR records the full time Main stream and IVS/MD events as separate files.

I typically set the substream under Record Mode to Manual

I've just set it to Auto and will record for a bit and report back.

MANY thanks for the great article and quick help.

It is actually due to the poor browser support.
It runs smoothly with Edge right from the start, but it keeps crashing during playback.
It's not really a problem though, SmartPSS works great.

I was always annoyed about this supposedly bad hardware from the start, but now I realize that it was just a layer 8 problem.

I noticed that sometimes several recordings were made of the same event, so I have now switched off SMD as suggested.

My English is not the best, so I use Google Translate.
There are sometimes translation/communication problems here.

Is my setting now correct? :

I also took screenshots of the other settings, could you please take another look here to see if I can optimize anything?

I think its fine, though my German isnt as good as your English ;)

On the Record Mode screen, I think you want Main stream on Auto and substream 1 on Manual, like this

I've already noticed that when recording manually, no IVS is shown in the timeline, which makes searching more difficult.
I've already changed the main stream back to auto.

I've just switched substream 1 to on, and no IVC is marked in the timeline.

The question I'm asking myself is why do I need substream 1 in addition?
Doesn't that take up valuable additional hard drive space?

And if substream 1 is on, wouldn't it be better to set it to auto so that IVS is displayed in the timeline here too?

You don't need to store sub stream 1. Main stream in auto mode is enough.
plus enable in schedule plan: general + motion + inteligent/ivs...

this should be enough to see IVS blue lines in timeline on NVR...

does it work for you or you have missing IVS blue lines?

Per Dahua user manual

Manual: The highest priority. After manual setup, all selected channels will begin general recording.
Auto: Channel records as you have set in recording setup (MainMenu->Setting->Storage->>Schedule)
Off: Current channel stops recording

So probably as @steve1225 says, choose AUTO

You should see the IVS lines though if its recording- maybe these boxes need checked? Not sure of translation..

I am impressed by how committed you are and how quickly you help me.

Now I'm a little confused.

plus enable in schedule plan: general + motion + inteligent/ivs...

above you wrote that I better turn off SMD

Disable SMD...
Use only IVS...
doubling the same events (SMD + IVS) creates a lots of problems...

I'm not sure but I think it has something to do with translation errors.

I wrote above

" I've already changed the main stream back to auto. "

that means that after I switch back to Auto, all IVS events are marked again in the timeline.

Or is there another reason why I should include motion in the recording plan?

What I would also be interested in is:
when motion or IVS is detected, is an additional track added to the general track, or are the events just marked on the general track?

If they are just marked, it wouldn't take up any additional storage space.

Neither is switched on.

The first image is not switched on because Steve advised me not to use SMD+IVS together.

In the second image (Hofeinfahrt 2) is not switched on because I think that it will result in additional recordings and cost additional storage space, unfortunately I don't know that for sure.
In the other images you can see that (Hofeinfahrt 1)
is switched on.

As far as I understand, it already makes 2 recordings for an event: general, which is always running + now (Hofeinfahrt 1) as soon as IVS is detected.

I didn't want to record (Hofeinfahrt 2) as well because (Hofeinfahrt 1) is already running for an IVS.

Or am I misunderstanding the whole thing here too and it just puts markings on the general track?

yes, I wrote disable SMD and use only IVS...
so it means that in AI parameters menu You should disable SMD and use only IVS...
it that configuration camera should only generate IVS events...

But in storage schedule I always enable all 3 options.
for future use or some mistake configurations..

this is menu which informs NVR what events to store to HDD not what to generate.

If you don't enable storage schedule for motion events and camera will generate (by what ever reason like miss configuration or firmware error) Motion event then You will have hole in the recordings.

With all 3 options (general + motion + inteligent) selected in storage plan that situation will not even happen.
Also in Record mode there should be enabled Auto for main stream at all channels and off for sub stream 1 and 2.
Snapshots can be on or off depending do You need them (they are thumbnail in DMSS).

You didn't answer - do You have problems with IVS timeline or not?

ps. it hard to help when you put German screen shots or German names.. And Your answers are very Chaotic one..
At this moment I don't known what is Your actual problem? Yes I known this can be translation thing.

So if you have problems, please specify in 1-2 sentences what is actual problem?

And put one more time screen shots of actual configuration but in English (please switch NVR/camera language to English one)..

ps. if You enable all 3 options in storage plan there will be not additional recordings at all.
Simply everything will be recorded once on HDD.

If You miss to enable all options in storage plan then there can be missing recordings and holes in timeline/video events..

This is how this option should be configured by default but due historical reasons is not.

99% first time users have big problems to understand unique way how Dahua splits and stores video files in NVR/cameras...

Menu changed to English.

I hardly have any problems anymore, thanks to your help.

IVS is shown in the timeline.

However, it seems that short events are not 100% recognized:
To test the settings, I went to the front door and then went straight back in.
The whole thing took ~2-3 seconds, but was not marked in the timeline.

I am also one of the 99% of users who don't know how Dahua splits and stores video.

To explain the photo here. "Hofeinfahrt1 (Fast Moving)" is where IVS should be marked, and an alarm is also triggered so that I can switch the light on depending on the brightness.
4Screenshot 2024-09-03 10-28-50.png

"Hofeinfahrt2 (Tripwire)": I always had the Record Channel and Tour switched on here before I asked for help here.
5Screenshot 2024-09-03 10-29-01.png

Now I have switched both off.

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell from your answers whether this would generate an additional recording or simply set a mark.

With "Tripwire" I set an alarm and show the camera on Amazon Echo Show.

I followed your recommendation and turned on IVS, Motion and General

I'm now also interested in optimizing to get the best out of my hardware.

I've attached all the photos I took here again, maybe there are still optimizations I could make?
