I have a question about NVR PoE ports. I have been reading the spec on different NVR's with PoE. They all list the Total PoE Wattage output and the max Wattage per port. I don't see any voltage ratings. Some cameras are 12v and some are 24v. Does the NVR automatically supply the correct voltage based on the type of camera that is hooked up. I am planning on installing approx 16 turret cameras which are 12v. I also want to install 2 PTZ's which are 24v. I am looking at the Dahua Pro series NVR5424-24P-4KS2 which has a Max of 220 W PoE power and a max of 25.5 watts per port. According to the specs the Turret cameras use Less than 8.5 watts per camera and the PTZ's use 23W with the IR's on per camera. So 8.5W x16 = 136W and 23W x 2= 46W. That's a total of 182W. I'm guessing it will work. Am I correct?

The POE voltage is in the 50 volt ballpark. Any camera supporting the 802.3af or 802.3at standard expects this. The 12 or 24 volt specs are for when you power the camera via its separate power connector. The PTZ cameras are probably 802.3at (poe+), which your NVR's specs say it supports.

Great, thanks for the info. The 2 PTZ cameras I want to use are the SD59225U-HNI which are PoE+(802.3at). So by the specs the cameras and NVR I selected should work great. Thanks

I am looking at a non PoE PTZ camera that comes with a 24v power supply for the camera. Being a newbie my question is can a non PoE camera using a separate power supply to power the PTZ camera still be connected to my Poe NVR?
