You'll have to try reloading the previous version of software/firmware before the update to see if it recovers, but some manufacturers don't allow going backwards so it's best to contact them for support.

Did you update using a USB?
Dahua NVR's log their update process to the USB, which can help is diagnosing if something went wrong in the update.

The update takes ~5minutes.
