I did a new Blue Iris installation for my parents recently. It's a start and probably needs 3 more cams to provide adequate coverage. BI server is an i5-8500 Dell Optiplex. Currently have Deepstack server installed and have OpenVPN setup so I can tweak it remotely from 500 miles away. Ran 500 feet of interior Cat6 and 500 feet of direct burial Cat6. Here are a few installation pics.

Three Dahua T5442T-ZE cams for north and south driveway plus part of the backyard:

I like the 4x4 posts cameras. Pretty nice!

What's the hardware look like behind the scene? Router, switch, etc?
WiFi router is Asus RT-AC86U upstairs (that lone wire goes to it). POE switches are 8-port unmanaged. I used two 8-port instead of one 16-port just in case a power supply or something else dies in one of them then you can still have the most important 8 cams still operational. Note I have the exterior wired (direct burial) cams on one switch. Equipment is in a room in the basement. Need to talk dad into getting a UPS battery backup.

Nice! I assume the OpenVPN runs on the Asus router?

I need to talk my family into letting me install cameras

What is the size lens you have on these two cams? 2.8?

The one on the ceiling is the Dahau 4MP Dual Mini Dome (HDBW5441F-AS-E2) 3.6mm. The thinking is to go with the 3.6mm instead of the 2.8mm because the camera is 19 feet above the porch so the more "zoom" the better.

The doorbell one is the 2MP Mini Dome (E3241F-AS-M) 2.8mm. The thinking is that you'll be capturing faces up close so 2.8mm at that distance is fine plus it gives a larger field of view overall so as to see as much of the porch as you can. I also use this cam to notify when the USPS is here so it is powerful enough to see detail on the street. It acts as a spotter cam for the PTZ also.

Here's what it kind of looks like (see video below) when there is a visitor.

I apologize for the herky-jerky motion at times...I was being lazy and did a screen capture (while it played) as I couldn't figure out how to set a Start Frame and End Frame (for exporting) when you have a group of cams in the player. It's grayed out....the herky-jerky motion is because I was remotely logging in over OpenVPN to my Dad's BI5 system and his internet isn't quite as good as mine. The PTZ not staying focused on the subject is because this particular PTZ doesn't do a good job of "dwelling"...as soon as it doesn't see a lot of movement it gives up and goes back to Preset 1. It's the spotter cams that are retraining the PTZ to go to Preset 2 where the visitor is.

UPDATE:

I just completed the installation of a Dahua T5442T-ZE in a tree at my parents' house and thought I'd share pics. I have dubbed it "poop cam" because this camera now covers an area near the back of the house that was used by at least a couple of teens (that I know of) as a latrine. This neighborhood is upper middle class and it's disturbing to me that teens feel it appropriate to walk to the back of someone's house whenever they have have to relieve themselves. I suppose it's a sign of this generation. I had already installed a cam to cover the north driveway (#1) but it wasn't enough to cover the back corner of the house. But, between the north driveway cam and one in the backyard I figured out what the teens were doing and sent Dad back there to confirm. Dad found a steaming pile of poop just outside the master bedroom deck. He shared the pics with me (thanks Dad) but I'll spare you...LOL! So poop cam (#2....how appropriate) was mounted on a tree to video that secluded area that beckons these teens. I also added a video security sign next to the steps leading up there. I used direct burial Cat6 but ran it within drip line tubing just to help protect it.

Paint these cams to match the post & tree...

I like that the cams are very noticeable in bright white. I want them to see the cams before they pull down their pants. I know some of y'all want to "catch" them in the act but I just assume it be a deterrent so it never happens in the first place. What's crazy is the kid didn't even care that there was a vehicle parked on the side of the house at the time so he should have assumed that someone could be standing on the master bedroom deck. Well, apparently the kid has shit for brains and left he brains where he squatted.

Here's a quick snapshot (I'll spare you the video) where dear ol' dad sent his child to that same place in the backyard to pee while trick-or-treating. He probably lives in the community. People are pigs and disrespectful. Too bad the pile of poo had already disintegrated because it would have been justice if his had daughter slipped and fallen into it.
