So I just received my Hikvision DS-7716NI-I4 and this thing is a monster in terms of size. When this thing is powered on, the white dots are super bright. Does anyone know how to turn the lights off?

Looks like a ton of wasted space inside. Or maybe that is space for hard drives? where are the white dots? In the middle of the buttons on the front? If the power wires to the lights are soldered to the board or go straight into the power supply then your only choice may be to cut them or to cover them up. I have used dark colored cellophane sheets layered over bright lights to dim them without totally disabling them. But if the lights are inside of buttons then that isn't a good option.
The empty space is for another 2 hard drives. This thing can take 4 - 6tb hard drives for a total of 24TB!! The light is inside the button. But you do give me an idea that I could do a cut out in the shape of the white dots and just stick over it with electrical tape.

I would just slap eletrical tape on it
That's what I'm planning to do but I'm not sure if the buttons are touch sensitive or requires pressure.

I have no clue! This is my first NVR and set of security cameras. So sorry I can't give you a comparison.
