New Home Install - A few questions

Hi

I'm looking to install external Hikvision IP cameras (minimum 4mp) at my home address. I've recently had the house rewired and installed CAT6 cable throughout and have 5 cables spare in preparation for my CCTV install.

Ideally I would like 2 at the front of the house, 1 in the side alleyway and 1/2 at the back of the house. I've attached images of the house and the yellow circles signify where I'm thinking of installing the cameras, the red circle is the alleyway camera facing towards the front of the house.

Please could I be advised the best positions to install the cameras and what the best cameras I should install as I don't know much about cameras. Once I've chosen the cameras I'll probably get a specialist installer to fit them for me.

Apologies if a similar question has been asked, I did do a search beforehand.

Just know when picking your cameras choose the right mm lens,if you want to see licence plates you should go for a 6mm lens unless your cameras will be close to the road then you could use a 4mm

What I found worked well for me was to get a nice long Ethernet cable and long enough piece of wood and some screws.
Mount the camera on the wood and experiment with positioning location and angles and lens variants, recording the video so it can be reviewed later.
Locations vary so much that your optimum probably won't be easily identified by others just looking at drawings.
 
I prefer the turret! i like the look bettter. just one larger IR to side of lense. domes tend to have IR bleed. I have two of the 3mp turrets and love them. the 2742 dome has a motorized lense which is nice the turret is fixed.

Oh ok, sounds good. Does that mean the lens can be controlled somehow, or have I got that completely wrong?

Also, what do you think about installing a PTZ and the front of the house? Overkill or not lol. Thanks
 
2742 is a vari-focal, but does not have motorized lens. you set the zoom and focus manually at setup time and that's it.

bullets are cheaper and a bit easier to install, but tend require more cleaning as spiders like 'em for some reason.
turrets give you better IR for night images.
domes can have IR-bleed issues causing foggy night images, unless not relying on camera's IR (like a well-lit entryway is OK).
