Hello all. I am just setting up our house with a camera system. I just purchased BI based on the rave reviews it gets/transitioning from testing cameras with I-Spy. I am assuming that my registration will only permit 1 viewing computer, and not multiples (ie. remote viewing from my laptop). The main question is, if I build a NAS with a built in quad core processor, will that suffice for 24/7 recording of up to 8 cameras at 4 MP? I will be accessing the data from my home PC primarily, which is an 8 core gaming rig, so processing video shouldn't be an issue. Or, do I need a 'live' deadleg PC to point the cameras to the NAS?

@chubbyburgerslinger 1 BI license allows you to run BI on 1 PC. You should set aside a PC dedicated to BI only.
You can view your camera live stream, alerts, clips from any number of computers via BI web UI or mobile app. There is no restrictions for this.
I don't store recordings on a NAS so I can't answer that question. In my case, I have a direct attached WD Purple drive on BI PC for 8 cameras.

Is that purple drive connected to a PC running BI, or is it just a storage device that the cameras are pointed to?

The Purple drive is connected to PC running BI.
I highly recommend that you set aside a PC for running BI, something like a refurbished Dell Optiplex i5 or i7 6th generation or higher. No need for Nvidia/external graphics card. Use Intel graphics.
So rather than a NAS, I should probably look to build essentially a little HTPC with internal/external drives connected for storing cam data.
Yes, a dedicated PC for BI. Add 1 or more Purple drives for storage.
TYVM. One last question. So that HTPC that build is on, can be viewed from my gaming PC without buying a second license? Albeit from inside the same house.

Have a look at an interface called UI3. Written by a user and a really nice way to access your BI machine. Blue Iris UI3 beta test is now open! I use it on my laptop, phone and tablet, via web browser, and it is a lot nicer than the built-in web server from BI. It is supposed to be included as part of BI with the next major update.

For best results you need to dedicate a computer to only Blue Iris.
There are multiple methods to view remotely that don't take a lot of power.
No need to build anything, you can purchase a refurbished computer for less via Ebay, or Dell or HP outlets.

Careful, the help you get here can get expensive....computers, disks, cameras, switches, routers, cables, UPSs, test equipment, yada, yada, yada.
Most of the hardware I already have (switches, cables, PoE router, etc). I have two 4mp domes to start/test, looking to add about 6 more to the property. I am trying to keep the budget below $1000 for computer, additional poe router, etc. The cameras will be added as I scale the system.
