Which NAS has confirmed to be working with Dahua NVR for extended storage options? I'd like it to treat it as if they were installed in the NVR. Nvr would record to onboard HDD 1st, then overflow to NAS then rewrite NVR to continue. I would also like to leave a specified amount of space on the NAS for desktop backups.

my NVR5216 has an FTP option:
Some Dahua cams do have "NFS" capability too.
Bottom-line: if you NAS supports FTP, this type of NVR can dump stuff in there.

I was wondering if there was any "tested" NAS that works well with them. As with many software/hardware companies, they can be finicky with untested, other branded devices.

NAS compatability is usually based on protocols. FTP is 30 year old protocol standard, best use secure SFTP or ssh protocols. All NAS devices that adhere to rfc standards will work. As your using the NAS device as a dropoff for files, rather than a interface for viewing and recording, that is the cameras job.
As the poster noted NFS can be utilized as well, probably to 3.0 standards its still the most common. Lots of people use QNAP and Synology around here, also many linux derivatives like FreeNAS. Choose your NAS based on open standards and linux you can’t go wrong. If your looking consumer NAS use the above noted.
