Motion detection footage always freezes for a few seconds when it starts

Hi all

I have a DS-7608NI-SE/P with firmware version 3.0.9 build 140928 and DS-2CD3132-I HD cameras (only 3 connected so far). Overall the system is working, the cameras are recording based on motion etc. My problem is that after about 1 second of recording the footage freezes for about 6 - 8 seconds. So for example i have one camera above my front door. When someone walks up to it I see their feet and legs come into frame, and then it freezes for about 6 seconds and by that time they've walked inside without me actually seeing their face.

I've tried dropping the frame rate and quality down with no difference. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

have you got hdd sleep enabled? maybe the hdd is sleeping and has to wake up before it records in turn freezing things before it can write to the drive.
