I'm a few days into the demo version of BI and I'm having lots of trouble with motion detection.
I'm trying to do zone crossing because of trees and shadows and sunlight in the summer. Drives us nuts on those days, but we like to know if someone comes up the driveway.
Very little hit and a lot of miss.
I have watched the videos posted in the forum here and I am pretty sure I understand it, gut when I try to edit my settings by checking old videos I don't see much for motion.
When it is dark (being winter it is dark when we come or go) I see almost no motion when a car is in the driveway moving along. This is even after setting the size and contrast all the way down.
I'm wondering if it is my camera or ??

Anyone experience bad motion detection at night?

you will need to post your settings and the video...otherwise its just a bunch of useless guessing.

Agreed. Will do as soon as I can sit down in front of the PC again.
I'm just baffled by the way that headlights and the car moving through the shot don't trigger motion, but often the change back to darkness does.
My expectations (wants) from BI are
1. To be able to mitigate some swaying tree shadows that the current line crossing I use drives us nuts with.
2. Do # 1 fast enough to let us know someone is coming up the driveway
3. Record can footage with overlays of my choice. (Again a want)
4. Be able to send messages on these alerts. This I don't see an issue with. I can send messages to my home automation system to turn on lights, react based on occupancy, time of day etc.

So it really boils down to whether or not I can get the zone crossing working because everything is based on that. Otherwise I could just buy an nvr and be done with it.

I must say that I appreciate the help in this forum. It is a great resource.

Blue Iris has a many more advantages over an NVR than zone crossing...I suggest you buy the NVR...that's the only way you'll appreciate it...
Again there is nothing baffling you have not set it up correctly...
