Hi All,

So I have been looking at some Dell OptiPlex systems on eBay Australia, such as this one which comes with an SSD (Dell OptiPlex 7040 SFF Desktop PC Core i5-6500 3.20GHz 8GB RAM 256 SSD Windows10 | eBay)

My idea is to add a 3.5" WD Red NAS 4TB (WD40EFRX) 64mb cache drive to the system for the actual ongoing recording - 7 cameras, probably 7 days of footage using substreams.

My question is, is this going to be a problem or is there a slot available in the system to add the drive - I don't seem to be able to find an answer. If someone has this system, could you please comment?

Thanks a lot!

It has room for one SSD and One 3.5" hard drive.
Suggested to use a WD Purple.
See dells site for exact specs.

My 7040 does have the M2. But it's the larger tower. I assume the smaller-case model does too.

We have a 7040 which my son uses and yes it does have an M2 slot for an SSD, definitely space for 1 full size HDD. Can’t quite remember but you might be able to shoehorn a 2nd drive in but you will need to either modify the existing cabling or buy an adapter as there is power for only one SATA drive.
