Just got this off the news line.

IMO, it appears they had all outriggers out and planted but that boom should never be run that far out at that height, angle and load; even with no load, that boom is too heavy as it was)....simple physics would easily show the leverage of that boom weight at that angle overcomes any bracing and truck weight, regardless of the available outriggers deployed. It would take outriggers several times the existing length and several times the existing strength to overcome the leverage applied by that load at that angle. The boom would then need more strength or it would buckle. Likely a moronic or rookie operator. Most later-built booms and cranes have interlocks that prevent certain loads at angles and rotations that it can't handle...something may have been bypassed or missed in inspection. If so, someone is in big trouble.

Did you see the guy on climbers on the pole in the background? When the load began to come down he scurried quickly to the other side of the pole; could have easily killed him!
