Is the regime in Iran soon to be toast?

The US stated they are bombing water plants, bridges, rail, airports, and electric grids as well as the oil fields.

While I don’t doubt that will have an effect on Iranian leadership, and they are tactical targets, it’s the civilians that will suffer.

I don’t recall a US President saying we would would “decimate the entire country”

I guess I thought we were better/different

The powers that pull the strings behind the curtains are flexing again, simply to raise the prices paid by worldwide consumers. They're trying to say "WE control things." Trump thinks too many people have had too many years of that, and says, "No, the US does." It will be interesting to see what happens next (after the huge surge in gasoline prices this evening).

Part of me roots for him to say and do stupid shit about oil, he’s making me good money in #XLE

Hoping Trump will come out with something else crazy about ME oil before days end.
Go Trump!

Trying to eliminate independent cells of the IRGC in Iran is about like trying to remove the Viet Cong from the jungles of South Vietnam. Same shit, different day.

hmm .. wasn't until Nixon hit North Vietnam hard that the North Vietnam came to the peace table
iirc we hit their dams also ..

local VC were wiped out basically during the Tet offensive, however while that was a military victory for the USA, from a political pov it seemed like a defeat to the US population of the messaging "we are winning"

I do not think anyone with a clue thinks the IRGC can be cleared out fully

I think I said many pages ago that I have no doubt that the US military can “win” a war with Iran.

That said, what comes next is more important.

Will the American public be ok with 1/2 of our Navy loitering in and getting shot at by insurgents for the next 5?-10? years to collect tolls ?

There is and always has been but one way out.
Leave. Walk away from the clusterfuck before it becomes an even bigger clusterfuck

The thing I miss most about the 1960s was how gas prices were so ridiculously low. At some point, everyone began to believe 100% of our crude comes from the Middle East. Neither situation is ideal.
The standard gas stop for me was "Two dollars regular, please", which would have been a bit over 6 gallons. I don't remember if that got a free Sunday paper or drinking glass, or if that took a fillup. I've said for a long time that we never should have taken oil from the Middle East. We traded national security for cheap stuff, just as we did with China, and now we continue to pay the price.
