Just dialed in my settings for night time once again. Pretty damn happy with these ones.... Figured I'd share for anyone with a setup close to mine. The IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E.

I am noticing my camera occasionally goes out of focus. I have it on manual. I set it to night and day using the http interface-- and then I set the focus 5 seconds later to ensure it is right. Occasionally I am seeing it off....

Maybe I will have to record full time to figure out when it is getting blurred....

That does day mode... 5 seconds later..

Focuses @ 0.144... For night I use 0.189..

Also- trying to figure out the ideal time to switch. I use a solar radiation sensor on my weather station to make the call...

I used to have the same intermittent focus problem with that camera model. I gave up trying to figure out what the problem was and now operate two of the cameras used for license plate capture in black and white 24/7/365. The other two are used for long-distance viewing in color 24/7/365. They never go out of focus now.

Do you use Blue Iris?

I shut off the PTZ/controls to the camera from Blue Iris to have one less variable there. All the modes on the camera are set to manual focus.

I set the camera to continually record. I'll see if and when the focus gets out of whack...

Not interested in running multiple cameras. Want just one that works.

I have a trigger from another machine which puts in in day mode if the solar radiation is above 10 and into night mode if it is below 4.
I then set the focus 5 seconds later.

I also discovered there is a web based reset I can do as well. I am hoping I don't need to add that to the mix.

Color/IR focus shift. There's some technical explanation for it but Its a thing..

Whats the distance to the target? And how fast would you say the vehicles are going

I have one LPR cam I run in B&W 24/7 which defeats the color to IR shift in focus.
The other (this one) I run a Schedule profile and have it switch 45 min before sunset and 45 min after sunrise to allow the camera enough light to focus.
Yeah I have to adjust the switch time 3-4 times per year , but that 4-5 minutes of my life I'm ok with

Same camera Approx 100ft to target, typical speed 20-30mph. last one is a motorcycle

I can't even change my "Day and Night" mode to B&W. It is set to auto and I cannot change it. I tried a bunch of settings...

I about about 150 to 180 feet I think. I have IR spotlight on the spot...

I think I am going to just change my day/night mode to happen like 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 after sunset. I do that with homeseer so I can make it very configurable...

Ok- I found another setting-- if you make it full time then you can select color and B&W. Thanks.... Daytime now forces color--
