IP Camera System - Advice Wanted

Hi All,

I will be installing a cameras on the front of my house and wanted some info.

I have been reading through this forum on and off for a few weeks now trying to get my head around what I need.

What I have gathered so far is unless I spend a lot of money on a camera I won't get good daytime and nighttime footage from the same camera, so I thought I would install 2 or 3 cameras.

The highest recommended night time camera is IPC-HDW5231R-ZE supplied from empire tech

But what do people recommend for daytime cameras, is it worth going to 4K or is it a waste or should i just install the 1 starlight camera?

Also what NVR with POE do you recommend? I would only use 4 cameras max.

I have thought about building a separate computer but I like the 'plug & play' idea of a NVR I can put on the table and leave. I would like to be able to use some sort of mobile accessible app to view the recorded footage and I would like it to be able to flag motion in defined areas.

I will run Ethernet cable through the roof myself.

Also does anybody have any feedback on the milesight cameras? Is their any advantage of using milesight cameras with the milesight NVR?

You want to match the NVR to the cameras. Or for a much better solution look at a vms like blue iris. Starlight turrets fixed can be had for 100 bux, that is not alot of money. There are also new dahua and hikvision cameras 8mp with large sensors 1/1.8 and 1/2 respectively that do well at night but not as well as the 2mp starlight. Start reading.

The Dahua 4231EM-AS turret is a fantastic Starlight fixed-focus camera, with excellent daytime picture quality and unrivaled nighttime picture detail and quality. Generally, more/higher pixels won't get you a lot more detail, due to the physics involved with light, sensor size, and processing power inside the camera. Contact @EMPIRETECANDY and ask for non-DHL ('slow') shipping and you can save a few bucks. Alternately, the newer varifocal HDW2231R-ZS turrets without microphone are the same cost as the 4231. These allow you to adjust and set your focus and field of vision precisely to your needs. Note this doesn't mean they're intended to zoom back and forth all the time.

I had a quick look at blue iris forum on here, it looks like quite a powerful program once you have a good understanding of it.

I would like an NVR I can just put on a table and don't have to think about building a PC/ ensuring the software is working.

Reading through the mile sight user manual it looks very easy to set up new cameras, access it from your phone, set up events, etc.

I can get the MS-N1009-UPT (NVR) for $320 and the MS-C2975-PB (2MP) for $200 Australian peanuts I'm just struggling to find any feedback/ reviews for the cameras.

You are mistaken about blue iris vs nvr. You dont have to build a pc. There are companies out there that build pc for you! HP dell to name a few. You dont have to ensure the software is working any more than you have to ensure the nvr is working.
Its just as easy to setup BI as it is an nvr...but I encourage everyone to buy an NVR first. That way when you throw it against the wall you will appreciate blue iris more.

I just picked up a Dell Optiplex 9020 Mini Tower i7-4790 3.6Ghz with 8GB ram and no hard drive for $212.40 on eBay. Added a $60.00 250GB SSD and you've got a plenty powerful Blue Iris box with a lot of expansion space inside the case for $272.40. Upgraded the 9020’s v12 bios to the latest (v24) and installed Won10 Pro (for free) usong the MS Media Creation Tool and — *voila* — Windows is activated automatically an for free courtesy of System Locked Pre-Installation (SLP).

Haha I wanted the NVR compared to BI because I thought I would be throwing blue iris against the wall. I assumed it would have a step learning curve.

Are those computers rated to run 24/7?
I thought you would have to run server grade parts for reliability?

I have over 20 running blue iris (mostly hp elitedesk but some dell optiplex) no problem for years. Some running since 2012 most 2013-2014. One powersupply failure after 6 years running. Just as reliable as any nvr.

I was still using the Milesight NVR and IP camera up until I moved earlier this year

I rate the Milesight for the ease of use

I plugged it in, never had an issue for 4 years and it was really easy to navigate/use

This week at my new house I installed Dahua cameras, NVR, intercom and screen

The Dahua have a really good reputation and I wanted to play around with their products this time
