Hi,

I have a few questions and would really appreciate any help/advice. I'm looking to buy a few Hikvision 4K outdoor dome cameras, specifically the DS-2CD4585F-IZ(H).

I'm seeing them on some UK sites for £800-900 but I'm also finding them on Chinese sites for £300. The Chinese sites don't specifically refer to them as Hikvision but they do use the same model number.

Also on the Chinese sites, I'm seeing two language versions - Multi-language and English - with the cheaper cameras being multi-language.

So, my questions are:

1. Are the cheaper £300 cameras on Chinese sites genuine? Are they Hikvision?
2. What's the difference between the two language versions? Is the multi-language version straightforward for a non-Chinese speaker to follow?
3. If the cheaper Chinese cameras aren't genuine, what firmware would I use? Will Hikvision firmware work?

I'm in Hong Kong quite a but with work so getting hold of the cheaper cameras will be easy, but am I wasting my money? Should I even be considering the cheaper cameras?

Many thanks for your help

Phil

You could probably strike great deals on tao bao, I'm just guessing you found them there. But they are almost always Chinese versions with Chinese language. Next step is the multi - Chinese hardware (serial number) with lots of language to choose between. They all work fine but you probably can't upgrade the firmware if you would like ( not a big issue), third Is English version, and that's pretty much what it sounds like all legit with upgradeable firmware just half the price of buying it in UK .. If you buy in UK you have the right to complain and get service I guess. The two middle options you find on aliexpress for example.

You might find it with a dealer on tao bao as well and then you hit the jackpot. ☺

Agree with everything badmannen said.

It will be English (and may well have Multi Language also even if not stated).

You won't get official Hikvision support and it might not be upgradable but only you can judge if that's really important for you/the intended purpose.

If the price difference is $10 or you are installing a security system monitoring a nuclear reactor then don't. If it were me I'd be choosing the aliexpress option though :P

Thanks for the info guys.

I've also found a 12mp Dahua camera - do these have the same firmware issues as Hikvision?

Thanks

Phil

we have around 30 of the Dahua 12mp (4000x3000) and one test Hikvision 12mp (does 4096x2160)

Much prefer the Dahua, both have pretty much the same feature set though... the Dahua we can get for $100 less than the Hik and you don't have the deal with the Hik crap about firmware, the 4k Hik is actually the international model so only english firmware

Would love to see some sample day/night images or footage from your Dahua 12ks if possible.
What model # are you referring to and have you had them i use for a while?

IPC-HDBW81230E-Z (and the previous model) we have stacks of from Dahua, pretty hard to fault other than they are the stupid dome other than a Turret/Eyeball
DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H) is the Hik
equivalent

largely we use these two as we need a 90 degree field of view, will see if I can get a few back to back comparison shots
