If you had this set up what would you use ?

nice username!
Thanks for the links, I think Wittaj's wiki suggests 16gb ram so I'll probably look at a slight upgrade on the one you linked. I'm trying to find out as per advice above if this model has a spare Pcie slot for a NIC card. I'm assuming they are all able to take an internally mounted surveillance HD.

Thanks for the help, I'm starting from the bottom rung of knowledge with all this but I am determined to learn
Easy to upgrade ram after the fact. It's cheap. Me, if your going to upgrade ram, go to 32gb.
It has space for 2nd nic and will hold one 3.5" surveillance rated HD, plus an NVME ssd drive.

That's really brilliant, I'll get one ordered. That's another thing ticked off the list thanks to this forum. Truly appreciate your help with that Looney2ns :)

I've just noticed this POE injector is going into my current network switch. What is the purpose of it if it's not to power cameras ?

Unplug it and see which camera goes off LOL.

I suspect it was added because the POE switch was underpowered to run all the cameras connected to it.

Hi Wittaj,
I posted a picture of my switch on page 3 and was told it was just a network switch and not POE but I've just noticed that injector - so it doesn't make any sense to me. There are no cameras plugged into it yet, just ethernet cables that run through the house

So there is no camera connected to that injector? What do the cables go to? One is going into the switch, so what is the other one connected to?

The grey cable goes into the switch from the injector, the blue disappears into the mass of cables that goes out somewhere and not into the switch

Unplug it and see what stops working lol.

Any chance it went to a camera at some point and now nothing connected to it?

On the injector the grey is likely plugged into "LAN" and the blue into "POE" and that "POE" powers the device at the other end of that blue cable and also brings back its data and pipes it into "LAN" via the grey.

As wittaj said, if nothing on the end of that blue then you're just wasting some power and money.
