has anybody ever run BI on a first generation core i7? like for 2 cameras? Just wondering if there is any use for this optiplex sitting around. runs windows great with SSD.

I don't think you will find an issue with the processing power (especially for such a small number of cameras). If they have a weakness, it is going to be in the power consumption numbers. You might find it cheaper in the long run to purchase a newer and more efficient model.
