Hello, I have moved my BI to a new machine with supermicro and i5 7400t, old machine will be switched off. The old one had i7 7700. Do you think it is worth the hassle of moving i7700 cpu to a new machine? The i5 7400t has lower maximum consumption, but the i7000 had around 25% cpu utilization while the i5 7400 has around 50% of cpu utilization.

Your hardware would need to support a cooling solution for the i7-7700 it draws 2x more wattage and creates more heat.
What is this " Supermicro"?

You will likely not save any actual power or very little. dont move it, there is no storage space in the little machine either.

So a little bit more story. I have a QNAP NAS ts-h886 for keeping my photos and movie clips from a vacation, on a RAID5. Then I have a Supemicro X11SAE-F with IMPI on i5 7400T cpu with RAID5 and Windows OS - serving as a backup for QNAP data. Then I had a dedicated machine for BI, on some cheap gigabyte board B250 chipset and i7 7700 cpu with geforce 1050ti for codeproject ai, no raid. In supermicro I put i5 cpu because initially I could not figure out how to have aspeed graphic card for IPMI and enable intel 630 gpu and enable geforce 1050ti at the same time. Finally I recently made it to work (aspeed + igfx + geforce) altoghether. The question is whether to leave i5 7400t, or move and install i7 7700 into the supermicro? If I don't move it, I will have spare i7 7700, TDP wise, i5 7400T is not a bad choice, but it lacks the additional logical cores and ghz.

I decided I will switch the cpu. I will also move the supermicro to a new rack moutable case, add more cooling fans, and during the switch I will change the cpu cooling for the i7 7700 cpu. I would not be able to stand the missing powerhouse - logical cores and higher clock of i7 7700. So as a result, instead of 3 machines, I will have 2 machines.

I made a change, and it's a day and nigth in terms of performance. I will later measure what is the difference in power consumption.
