I bought a WD Red, NAS, Drive for Blue Iris and to return it costs almost $13 on an original purchase price of just over $100. Can I use this for Blue Iris or suck it up and return it?

It will work fine. If you have many cameras with high bitrates you might consider that 13 bux in the grand scheme of things is nothing.

Any properly functioning hard drive is fine for most users. A modern hard drive is typically capable of well over 1000 Mbps. Your load will only be around 40 Mbps, and that is if you have all the cams recording continuously.

Of all the BI systems I have set up, I only used purple drives in two of them and just whatever was cheap in the others.
