http command --- trigger preset zoom

Hi, First time post.
Great forum, information overload:)

I am looking a setting up my first cctv system & hoping for some advice.

I was thinking to get 4 IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 2MP
From reading the forum, although I would have preferred higher MP cameras it seems these are the best
all-round performer for low light ???

Onto my main question.
Would it be possible using the onboard camera software not a nvr to initiate a preset zoom position via
a http command or possibly an input trigger on the camera.

I would like a camera pointing up a driveway towards some gates with an intercom.
Under normal conditions I would want it fully zoomed out giving a view of the garden, drive and gates.
when the intercom is pressed (intercom has option to send http command on incoming call ) I would
like the camera to then zoom in to a preset level to give a close up on the gates.

no. Also note these cameras are motorized varifocal, they are intended to be set at the time of install and left alone.
 
Thats too bad, didn't realise the zoom function was only for installation. Looks like I will be needing 5 cams.

With a PTZ camera, you could have different preset zooms and pan/tilt locations for viewing. Not sure which NVR you might be using, but Blue Iris on a PC can well-integrate with some home automation systems to effect this sort of action. In the case of HomeSeer, it mainly uses z-wave but there are a number of purchased plug-ins available which might adopt the intercom.

As an afterthought, since the intercom can send http, then it can immediately control a PTZ camera's presets. How then the preset would be reset after the visitor event, I'm not sure, perhaps by some sort of motion event in the NVR, or via home automation.

Curious- what intercom are you using that can send http? Sounds like a nice add-on to Bue Iris for easy functionality. Thank you.

My intention was not to have an NVR but to use a software based system running on my existing home linux server.
this would have been an intermediary between the intercom & the camera trigger. The intercom would send a http command to the server to trigger a script that could send multiple commands & include delay between zoom presets etc to the camera.

That being said I have scraped the idea & opted for 2 cameras instead. Nice idea but with the zoom not being designed for regular use I think
2 cameras will be less hassle than the PTZ route.

Now the software issue is proving a headache. I am trialing WD Watchdog & I like the features, running very smooth on the server side
but on the desktop client its forcing my MacBook Pro to make ungodly noises I never realised it could make!
this alone is not a deal breaker as the desktop client would only be employed to review recorded events & what not.

The main viewing of the system is to be on several tablets around the house & remotely on phones. the main deal breaker for me with DW Watchdog is their mobile apps are in my opinion, poor to be fair I haven't spent a lot of time on them as I only have 1 camera to test with so this could change but my initial impression is they are not up to the task.

Unfortunately the options for linux seem limited, any suggestions would be welcome.

The intercom is a 2N Helios IP Force. They are quit pricey, think they retail for around £600. Got mine off eBay for around 100 new!
For 600 you would think http commands would be free but no you must then buy a licence to unlock that feature.

One alternative I thought of if you have a server would be to run a a light weight sip client on the server that could trigger a script on receiving a call. with that you would have a choice of commands & protocols to use to trigger events/presets on Blue iris.

Fattony- Thanks for the reply. Seems to be a high end product for sure! Looks like a cool set of features, just added to my eBay saved search, hope i get a nice deal like you did. How much did they charge you for the firmware/license to add http commands?
