How to hack 5.1.2 firmware on China region cameras to English

Hi, I have a problem, i accessed my hik 2032 chinese cam via telnet and FTP'd the davinci file, however after copying it to the camera dav folder i realised that the copy of the davinci file was for the 5.1.2 firmware, i rebooted the camera and now cannot gain access to it, tried via ip address/sadp software and telnet, also reset using button on rear of camera, no luck. Does anyone have any idea how i can regain access to the camera in anyway or is it totally bricked forever?

Thanks all

Ok, First of all thanks to catseyenu and ljw2k for the responses. Ive just used the TFTP tool using the 5.1.6 digicap.dav and it has reverted back to 5.1.6 firmware, great. However while using the tool i noticed it threw back a couple of ACK errors, Any idea what these are and if it matters?

Looks like some packets timed out while waiting on the camera, as noted above it's no big deal so long as the update completed.

Yes it was running fine although in Chinese :), Just tried 5.1.6 hack with the file from JeremyFR, rebooted and all seams well. English language throughout including day of the week. Really happy, going to try on all my cams later. Thanks for the support everyone :D

Please read the followig thread

and help us understand which software did you use in order for others to be able to replicate your experience succesfully.

Please mention which camera model you bricked (and de-bricked), the wrong version of firmware you used, the right firmware you used, the TFTP version software you used and where did you get it from.

I am also about to update the firmware of a 2CD2332 camera to 5.1.6 English and I feel unease to do it because of all the risks of bricking the camera.

Thank you for your support.

Perhaps your best bet would be to contact CBX for his fix... it's cheap, a no brainer & will save you a few grey hairs.

I prefer to handle such technical problems my self because it is obvious that HIKVision does not control the distribution of cameras properly and the distributors support in Europe is completely messed up. Nobody knows if they are distributing English or Chinese with English menus cameras. Therefore I can only rely on my technical abilities and the knowhow of fellows like you and others in this and other forums.

Thanks anyway for replying.

Dale, which version of 5.1.6?

I have a DS-2CD2432F-IW which I received from a Chinese vendor. the firmware on the box says V5.1.2_140116. When I received the cam it booted up and had english for the menus. Well of course not leaving well enough alone, I had to go without verifying the current firmware on the camera and uploaded the firmware off of nelly's for the exact camera using the webgui upload. This of course has caused the camera to now revert to Chinese. I have since tried the hack but with no avail, but that i'm sure was user error.

My understanding is that if I pull the davinci file off the camera modify the hex code, save, tar, gz the file then place it back on my ftp server I should then be able to push it back to the camera and it should allow me to have english menus? How do I verify what version davinci is currently on the camera since I've been futzing around with it.

Additionally, would a better route be to just use the TFTP auto update to connect to the camera and push the latest firmware? If so can I use the english firmware and it should override whatever is currently on the cam?

Any other tips or suggestions would be great.

Is your camera definitely a Chinese model, with CCCH in the serial number? If so then you may as well update to 5.1.6 now then apply the hex fix to make it English. Use TFTP to update to 5.1.6 140412. Then turn on telnet on camera, use telnet program to gain access and start ftp, copy the new davinci to camera then stop ftp and reboot. Any help required then jusk ask.

Thanks Dale! Just reading off the label on the box I don't see any CCCH listed, only numbers other than the model number. Would this possibly be on the camera itself?

Just to clarify "Then turn on telnet on camera, use telnet program to gain access and start ftp, copy the new davinci to camera then stop ftp and reboot." after I update using TFTP with 5.1.6 140412, what file davinci file am I actually copying? Would I change the hex code for the 5.1.6 firmware and thats what I'm copying?

The CCCH serial number will be shown on the software once logged into the camera under device information. E.g.

Model
DS-2CD2432F-IW

Serial No.
DS-2CD2432F-IW20131028CCCH438965448

Firmware Version
V5.1.6 build 140412

Encoding Version
V5.0 build 140411

Since the camera is from china, i assume that this is Chinese.

Anyway, do you know how to use the TFTP tool?

Thanks. I read the instructions for TFTP doesn't look too bad. I'm just wondering once I update using TFTP tool, you mentioned telnet in and copy the new davinci file to the camera. Just wondering which new file?

Dale, yes just confirmed mine does have CCCH in the serial. Firmware 5.1.6 build 140412, encoding v5.0 build 140411. (Note that this was copied pre me screwing it up with overriding it with the nellys us firmware). Not sure what it is currently, since I copied pasted that when it was in english. Clearly the vendor had updated already with 5.1.6 because the box read 5.1.2.

so can I use an english firmware with the TFTP tool ?
