Anyone here with structural concrete experience?? This is a pretty cool design... and it was hit by an F4 tornado at one time. What would it cost to build now?

$70k at 1970's.
Yes--- I wonder what it would cost now to build something similar. There are some houses from the 50's and early 60's in my town that are essentially just the basement of the house. The idea at the time was to move in and built the upper floor later, and for most people that just never happened. I do like that way this house flows with the land

You gotta watch her earthships houses. Cheap to build, but takes a LOT of labor.

Bunkers are the new status symbol, think on that

Temperature is stable underground, minimize the need for air conditioning. Why not take advantage of that? The way most of those houses are position, the summer sun is blocked from the windows and the winter sun is allowed in to warm the houses.

Who wouldn't want a house that provides air condition with minimal energy used? In addition, you can also setup the house to capture water, reuse grey water for the green house to grow food, setup solar panels and battery for energy needs. A home that provides and not just consume.

I'm too f-ing old for a LOT of labor. I got winded digging out 4 sprinkler heads!! :banghead:

I hear ya. We had siding put on this week along with screening in our back porch.
Which of course meant many of my cameras needed taken down and reinstalled. On a ladder more in the past 7 days than I have been in years. I hurt

Something that cost $75k in 1975 would cost ~$500k in today's dollars. Inflation would be ~500% or more easily.

Hell, architecture and engineering plans for those things are going to be six figures before the first shovel hits the dirt.
