How is this for a PC?

Looking to run max of 20 cameras. How would you rate this PC for performance? Not too worried about price. HP Envy Desktop PC - Intel Core i7-10700

For Blue Iris? That may be pushing it on the RAM with only 8 GB, but the CPU is very good. It is hard to do much better on the CPU without spending like $500 on the CPU alone.

The envy is licensed for Win 10 Home version. Not as much control over updates and networking stuff, but it would work. with 20 Cams it'd be optimal if it supported 2-3.5" hard disks

That computer is overpowered just for that 20 cameras, it can probably do 40 cameras without issue. Are you wanting to do DeepStack AI analysis?

your be better off with a XPS 8930 that has 2 extra HDD bays for splitting the recording to 2 drives. makes for fast data retrieval and date search. I prefer 2 drives.

$ 699 is pretty high compared to ebay. this one is an i5-8500. but just for comparison. I would advise searching on ebay for used " buy it now" priced PC. The Elitedesk g4-800 SFF(win 10 Pro) or the Precision 3630 MT(win 10 Pro)or the Dell XPS 8930( Win 10 Home)

5060 internal bays. I bought a similar optiplex for my friend as a daily driver. and I put a 1TB Nvme M.2 type drive and that fucker boots in like 3 seconds LOL. 2.5 bays x 2. But those drives are not suited to write 24/7.

Dell XPS 8930 has 2 spare 3.5" HDD bays. the 3rd one may be occupied by a 2.5" adapter with an SSD C:\ drive.

Here's a couple sellers. I bought from the 1st guy. The other guy i just used for an example. Hi Volume, probably not as responsive, and you can see a review where somebody had a problem and looks as though it may not have been resolved. 100% sellers with any longevity, will not do that to thier storefront. Amazon I supposed is easier to reutrn stuff, but they typically are quite a bit higher for the same PC. trying to put Lipstick on a Pig so to speak.

A few things

1 be careful purchasing off Amazon or eBay both sites sent me computers with the wrong cpu installed , I’m guessing they didn’t think I would notice , check your bios

2 I would update the ram 16 is good 32 is better 16 should be enough again 32 lol

3 get a hard drive that will store all the video with 20 cams I would be looking at 12 tb plus more. You want to Record continuously , it could be days before you notice someone stole something off your property or damaged something.
