Hikvision NVR 256-CH No enough network bandwidth

so 0.5 mbit is for second stream..

FPS don't matter for NVR network bandwidth limit...

but higher FPS with the same low bitrate decreases video quality (more video frames must fit into the same bandwidth)...

ps. man, those bandwidth informations are BASICS... I don't know what type of installation this is.. but for 200+ camera installation there should be someone who have real EXPERIENCE with cctv systems. And know things like NVRs scale up to 64 max and in some very specific cases up to 128 cams.. for more there should be VMS (like Nx Witness / Digital Watchdog) or even two NVRs working in parallel.
Yeah honestly im software engineer but I got thrown into installing very big numbers of CCTV and didn't find someone locally who have experienced with such big numbers, However the fault is on Hikvision why making 256 NVR that can't handle full those camera ( is not like im installing 12 or more ).
And I didn't know about the VMS, This was first time I read about it I'll consider it for future installations.

However I'll lower the bitrate and make the sub stream as 32 max bite rate ( we dont use sub stream at all ).

According to the calculator it should be enough, But now I've installed 170 Camera only, I'll test and share the result.

Thank you very much for the help.

NVRs are very underpowered devices (comparing to modern intel/AMD servers), based on ARM integrated processors (SOCs) developed for mobile world..

Those 'channel maxed' NVRs are more for situation when someone will need to add a few more cams over half limit of lower model and not fills them up to max channel limit...

There are other limits (network bandwidth, video decoding limits, AI limits) which are specified - and people familiar with CCTV knows their meaning and fact they can be very limiting in any bigger installation..

ps. VBR compression algorithms ('plus' in HIK h.265+) are dynamic algorithms, which are developed for lowering used HDD space.. they can be very low quality, especially for situations when a lot happens in video frame. In Dahua world this is called 'Smart Codec' and you will find in history of this forum hundreds of post about how it is bad. There is no big love here for h.265 - it gives better compression ratio at a cost of lacking video details.. Most popular here are CBR with h.264H or modern AI Codec with CBR or ABR (which I don't know is implemented in HIK world)...

ps2. if you were thrown into managing/installing cctv, start to read some historic threads about choosing cams / NVRs, configuring them and scaling installations..

I might be able to switch from NVR to VMS and use the NVR in other places where there's less camera.

So I was reading about VMS & HikCenteral Professional but I see some lack of information about it before I buy any.

VMS servers: ,
I notice that those server have decoding of only 16-ch or lower, So to create server that can handle all my of camera I need high-end hardware, i9-13gen & RTX 4090 or higher & buy the HikCenteral Professional license ( which the is not rly clear on the price of the license )

But I need to specify how many camera I need to use before I buy the license ? and if I need to increase in future I need to re-buy another license or can just add extra cost to it ?

If there's any documentations on building large scale CCTV system & monitoring please refer.

Note: I like to completely remove the NVR and just relay on big server

I don't think that you will find help about HikCentral Pro servers for 200cam install here on the forum.

those solutions are not something you buy over internet using knowledge from some internet forum.

You should find some local bigger CCTV integrator, which will show / demo you (and your company etc) a few different solutions (HIK Central, Nx Witness, Milestone etc).

And it should be capable to create offer with all hardware/software/license/technical specs & prices..

ps. they will cost a LOT MORE than that NVR...
Nx Witness is 150 USD / camera one time (but with 200 cams you should get good discount).. Hik central should be around similar (only license).
no hardware included...

Trust me I did search, No one ever worked on huge number with full high res like 8MB, No one ever worked on HikCenteral, They all just working on NVR and only few worked on 256-CH nvr and didn't reach bandwidth limit because of lower camera res.

So I guess it's something I need to figure out my self. I'll try to use demo License and figure it out.

if you heavy into hik central, you can download trial.

the same with other VMS (most companies offers downloadable trials). you can play, compare and select best for you..

ps. you should compare cost of VMS route (license / hardware / support) with cost of simply buying second 128ch/256ch NVR and dividing cams over two NVRs...
Yeah Ive consider this as well, if cost & time of VMS is higher I would go to buy another 256ch nvr and split camera on both, Thank you very much for your time!
