Hikvision cameras with Dahua NVR

Hi, I have an existing Dahua NVR with 8 channels. I originally had 6 Dahua cameras connected to the NVR. 2 of the cameras have stopped functioning, so I got Hikvision IP cams to replace them. I enabled ONVIF on Hikvision and updated the firmware to latest available as of right now (V5.7.18 build 240826).

Here are the model details:

Dahua NVR: DHI-NVR2108HS-8P-4KS2
Dahua old IP Cams: DH-IPC-HDW4631EMP-0280B
Hikvision IP Cams: DS-2CD2366G2-I

Here is how the Dahua cameras are currently configured on the Dahua NVR.

Here is how Hikvision cameras are configured currently on the Dahua NVR. Note, I have had to drop the resolution/image settings down to 720p, else there is a huge delay (6+ seconds) on camera live playback.

I would like to increase the resolution on the mainstream of the Hikvision camera to better quality, while not introducing any delays or lags in video playback. What am I doing wrong ?

1. Why You bought HIK camera to Dahua system?
First rule of of NVR: don't mix NVR and cameras from different brands.. it will be always problems..

You can't use AcuSense features over ONVIF with Dahua NVR..
If You can return those cams and buy Dahua then do it..

2. where You have huge delay - on NVR over HDMI? over web? or some app?

3. You have a very old (2016) and very low-end line NVR. It supports only decoding 1 camera with 8Mpx at 30fps.. at 20 fps it's around 10-11Mpx for HDMI display..

In case of Dahua cams, If You display over HDMI more that one camera, NVR is using secondary (low resolution) streams.
But this not work for ONVIF..

4. if You have problems with delay over web then it's ONVIF cam, without secondary stream. And You have very low power NVR.
Displaying over web camera streams requires conversion on the fly to standard which are supported by web browser (browsers don't understands RTSP).
Your NVR can do this for secondary stream from Dahua cams, but not have probably enough power to do that with main full resolution stream from HIK..

You can try to install Dahua plugins.. if this will not solve problem in modern browsers then You can try Internet Explorer mode in Edge with enabled ActiveX...

But it's time to start about changing NVR to something modern...

5. If you will choose some new camera - buy something with much bigger image sensor (1/1.8") to have nice video at night (with some street light in full color). The most popular line here on the forum is Dahua 5442.

And until you can changeout cameras or NVR, try these settings in the cameras for both streams:
  • Encoding strategy: General (or Smart Codec: Off)
  • Encode mode: H264
  • Bitrate type: CBR
  • Bit rate: 8192
  • Frame rate: 15 FPS
  • Frame interval (iFrame): 15

I am not planning to replace my legacy Dahua NVR. Instead the plan is to move to Frigate NVR in near future. I will however retain a mix of Dahua and Hikvision cameras.

For now, I am trying to make use of this Dahua NVR.
