Just received my new NVR as above and from the moment the power supply was first plugged into the rear of the box the fan has been on continuously. Contacted the vendor and he says this is normal but seems a bit odd. The NVR works fine however. Is this correct and normal?

Most NVR fans run continously. Many here have replaced stock fans with quieter fans.

even when the NVR is stone cold?
Yes.
No BIOS or s/w controls, no temp sensor.

You could go to the Noctua site, find your fan's size/voltage/sound level/power connector, get the part number and search for it, buy it and put it in to see if it helps. Maybe the expense and effort will be rewarding....:idk:

One of my amcrest NVR's ( believe it or not) had a setting for " Auto Sense" and manual" or something ...
But my Hikvision OEM's run continous. and I quickly ordered Noctua 3 speed fans for them because the stock fan is noisy.

My little fan has been running non stop in my Lorex NVR for the last six years. Noisy little bugger too. I 2nd the Noctua recommendation.
