Hik DS-7608NI-I2/8P - hard drive sizes >6TB ?

Just wondering if anyone is using the Hik DS-7608NI-I2/8P and has tried a single hard drive >6TB? The specs say you can use up to 2 x 6TB, but I'd like to fit something along the lines of a single 8TB.

I want to stay with the single drive to reduce heat and power consumption.

I run two 6tb drives in both units there on top of each other in a laundry closet on the top shelve there’s a digital thermometer recording the temp and when it hits 45c in summer when I’m not home and no ac running the temperature is only 58c once air con is switched on they drop to 38c
Winter time is good they warm the towels
 
Thanks for the feedback. It's more the power consumption side of things that I'd like to not increase- even a small additional load with something that is left on permanently can make a huge difference over a year. Hence why I'd like to stick to one larger HDD. Mine is inside the house so not subjected to extreme in heat, however I have noticed the fans do appear to have two speeds of operation (it's louder on warmer days.)

Logically I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't handle a single larger drive if it can work with a total of 12TB spread over 2 drives.

I've only just hooked up the full 8 channels and I was only getting around 6 days recording with 6 cameras on a 4TB drive.
 
Another question on Hik NVR's - does anyone know if you use two HDD does the NVR sequentially use the drives? I'm wondering if one HDD is written to at a time and the other is perhaps in sleep mode- which means the total power drawn isn't much different to using one larger HDD.

I think you are way overthinking 3-5w of power draw...
 
yes, the unused drive sleeps. in my opinion, using 2 drives is better. allowing the drives a chance to sleep for a few days at a time should make them last a lot longer. you can enable or disable HDD sleeping in: configuration, storage, advanced settings, other tab

Someone's got to think about the environment we're leaving behind for our children. :) If everyone in the world reduced their "standby power usage" by even a small margin it would make a massive difference.

Thanks for the info. From WD spec sheets that actually means 2 x 6TB drives (5.3W read/write + 0.6W sleep) would use less than 1 x 10TB (6.2W read/ write.) Adding a something like a 6TB to give me a total of 10TB sounds like the best option.

oh god, please...3-5w? really? it will have zero effect in the environment....now you are considering saving .2w? Its a zero savings...(setting aside that the environment is just fine)...you should consider doing away with cable tv and your boxes (they use lots of power), and maybe your camera system itself if you are concerned about .2w...
Want to reduce power consumption, buy an led bulb for a dollar and install it in someones home who is still running incandescent or cfl, you have now saved enough power for your hard drives.

My comment included (the unwritten, but obvious) consideration of the purchase cost of 6TB vs 10TB. But perhaps we should just stick to the topic, then you can keep your inflammatory comments to yourself?

I will comment on stupid statements and idiotic ideas, passive aggressive comments from fools not withstanding....go save a plant.

I do not know why not. By the way I am running 2 6TB and I can go back 6+ weeks worth of saved video. I also have a DS-7608NI-E2/8P with I think 2 4TP and can only go back about 2 weeks. I am thinking of changing that one out to a DS-7608NI-I2/8P which I like better for a number of reasons.
