I am from Australia and have been following this forum for a couple of months now. Thanks to nayr and many others for the camera reviews and tests, it has been very informative.
We had 2 incidents late last year where eggs were thrown at our house late at night. Both times I believe the people drove past in a car, stopped and then threw the eggs. This could simply be a case of mistaken identity or we have a few guesses on who it could be. Either way, I am determined to catch these people, especially before things possibly get worse.
I am keen to setup a dedicated LPR camera and general surveillance camera. I eventually plan to run the openalpr software. Based on recommendations in this forum, the two cameras I am looking at getting are the Dahua HFW5431E-Z5 4MP Bullet Network Camera (soon to be released) with up to 35mm zoom for LPR and the HDW5231R-Z 2MP Eyeball/Turret Network Camera with Starlight (currently available) for surveillance.
I have a few questions regarding my NVR/NAS, POE and mounting setup:

I have a few questions regarding my NVR/NAS, POE and mounting setup:
- What is a good network switch to purchase with a minimum of 4 POE ports that will support these cameras? MSY, our local computer component store, sell a D-Link switch with 4 POE ports for $79 http://www.msy.com.au/peripherals/14570-d-link-des-1008pa-8-port-10-100mbps-metal-housing-desktop-switch-with-4-port-poe-poe-max-52w.htm.l I have seen these switches recommended in forum discussions: Ubiquiti Networks - UniFi® Switch 8-150W
- What mounting hardware might I require for the bullet or turret cameras? Is there a junction box that Dahua sell for the bullets? I am looking to mount the bullet to the eaves (see 3_bullet_position.jpg) but I am not sure how I will mount the turret.
- The QNAP compatibility surveillance tool Compatibility list - Camera Dahua :: QNAP does not show these new cameras but it indicates support for the H.264 video codec, which both cameras use. Has anyone had success with using a QNAP NAS for video surveillance with new model Dahua cameras?
