Hi Andy,

I am from New Zealand and I was referred by two people from my original psot (Best trustworthy online sites to buy Dahua Cameras + NVR?) to discuss with you regarding the purchase for the Dahua 4k systems NVR + Cameras. Many people say you're the best support and that you provide many great affordable deals/discounts ;).

So I've been doing some individual homework and have so far seen good reviews and footages on these cameras:
  • Dahua IPC-HFW1831E (2018 low light 4K)
  • hdbw5831r-ze
  • HDW4231EM-AS
Though for the above cameras, I'm not too sure if they're new/recent..Are you able to tell me what are your latest/recent 4k cameras?

Would like to know this since I want to purchase some latest ones that will keep the firmware updates going and going for a long term support. Oh and also, what NVR system is recent and best suited for the 4K Cameras? Don't want one that will consumes so much CPU usage.

Lastly, I am from New Zealand and a person from my original post said "In general, if you plan to use a Dahua OEM international model NVR it is best to pair with with Dahua OEM international model cameras" may I ask you what he means? From my perspective, I think he is suggesting that I should buy the Dahua OEM international model for the NVR and cameras since I am from New Zealand..?

One more thing is, for the NVR, can we mix the cameras up with different models? like use two different models on the SAME NVR?

I highly recommend taking some additional time to do some more DIY learning by going through the cliff notes here as well as searching threads. This typically will provide you with the best results.

Most people's questions have been answered multiple times in the cliff notes and threads here.

For example:
"In general, if you plan to use a Dahua OEM international model NVR it is best to pair with with Dahua OEM international model cameras" - this issue has been covered extensively here. You can look for threads "Blue Iris vs NVR" ( many members prefer Blue Iris on a PC ), "Chinese Market Cameras" to read more on views on this topic. ( Dahua OEM cameras are typically "Chinese Market", "US Market", "International Market" - International and US market products play well with each other.. Chinese Market Cameras maybe problematic for some - thus best to avoid unless you're on top of the potential issues )

This will help out a lot as many of us here, while we like to help new people out - we do this for fun, and vendors who do this for a job, neither of which have enough time resources for extensive custom one on one learning.

Andy often helps out by donating a few cameras to reliable members who have time to do reviews - so DO search for reviews also. ( i see you have already seen some - also check for mentions of newer models - as we probably will see models posted and reviewed here fairly quickly compared to other places )

Thanks so much for again helping me out.

Yup, I have been researching on different POE camera brands and have spent just a few weeks on doing some homework on Dahua. I don't want to use Blue Iris since I plan to use a Dahua NVR for storing all the footages. Along this, I also plan on using the NVR to connect it to my monitor/TV screen for viewing. Lastly, the NVR would also be a good way to do all the settings configurations etc.

When you say "Dahua OEM international model NVR", are these the only model NVR Andy/Dahua sells right? asking cause I am kinda still confuse haha. I'm from New Zealand so I assume I am catagorized as International..? Also, since I will be buying a NVR, may I ask what is the official ios Dahua app is for viewing the cameras? so far I cannot seem to find anyone on Youtube that shows this and when typing on the app store, it shows many Dahua viewing apps..

* Andy - may I ask how often does EMPIRETECandy (Andy) come in to the ipcamtalk? I saw that he was last active a few hours ago but I think since you replied for me, he will leave me with you? Sorry for the assumption.

You also say the chinese cams are problematic, so will it be best to request from Andy not to get me the CHinese ones?

Just wanted to add that you can’t always do all of the camera configuration through the NVR. For some things, you’ll need to connect (via a web browser on your computer) directly to the camera.

Dahua has been good about firmware. The original Starlight that launched the Dahua craze on the forum here was the 5231 varifocal turret that came out fall of 2016. It’s since been replaced by a newer 5231 model. Anyhow, the latest 5231 firmware updates still work on the original model. Of the models you’re looking at, the 1831 is the newest and the other two are about two years older. Of the three, the 4231 Starlight will have the best low-light image quality, followed by the 1831, then the 5831.

Andy can get amazingly busy at times. If possible, it’s helpful to use the community members to figure out what you’re looking for, then when ready to order, bring Andy in. Not saying he can’t help answer product questions, it’s just that sometimes someone on the forum might get to it first.

Andy normally only sells OEM versions of cameras in Dahua’s international lineup. OEM means the equipment won’t come with the Dahua logo on it. International lineup means if you visit the Dahua site and select “International” for your location, the models you see there are what he can get. I’m in the US and I order from Andy because Dahua North America doesn’t carry many of the popular models that are available from the International lineup (for whatever crazy reason). He won’t sell you a cheap “made only to be used within China market only” model unless you specifically ask for it. None of the three camera models you’re looking at have a China-marke version, so no worries there.

When you ask about mixing different models on the same NVR, do you mean manufacturers? Like using a Hikvision camera on a Dahua NVR?

Hey, thanks for the detailed response. Oh I didn't realise that the NVR cannot do all of the camera configurations..on the NVR I purchase from REOLINK last year, I was able to do all the camera configurations there. I guess some are different haha.

Mixing models = like if I were to buy two different camera models (
IPC-HFW1831E and HDBW2831R-ZS) , will I be able to connect the two different camera models using the same NVR?

Yes, the Dahua OEM NVR can handle various Dahua OEM IP cameras - you can mix and match models.

Each camera has a numerous amount of options you can adjust, many that the designers think people typically want to access should be available on the NVR's interface. Since we often like to tune the cameras beyond what others may want to do, you may want to directly access the camera for those adjustments.

Understandable. I think I have made up my mind as to which Dahua 4K camera I'm going with. Though for the 5MP/6MP, I'm unable to find any reviews here on it. May I ask for your recommendation for the top most used 5MP/6MP cams? excuse the nuisances.

Hi Mikey

I've only picked either 8MP for well lighted conditions or 2MP starlight for low light conditions

One thing that you should know about the Mini Bullet Cameras is they do not have a built-in adjustment for Left/Right. You can adjust Up/Down and angles but not Left/Right. The larger bullet cameras do have adjustability in all directions.

Knowing this I probably would have went with more of the IPC-HFW2831T-ZAS as they are only slightly larger than mini-bullets, fully adjustable left/right/up down, motorized lens, and you can add an inexpensive mic to record audio.

@Davahad, which model mini-bullet do you have that can’t be positioned left/right? Never seen that mentioned before.
 
I had not either and the old QSee system I replaced had Dahua Mini Bullets and they were adjustable Left/Right although the adj tended to not hold well and maybe that is why Dahua removed that adj from the mini bullets? In any case the Mini Bullets seem to be not recommended here and maybe this is just another reason. The cameras I have are the 4831, 4231, 1831.

This is simply incorrect, they have always been adjustable in all directions.
 
Totally adjustable left/right if you do not put 3 screws in the base to hold it down. Once it is pointed and screwed down there is no adj left/right.
 
I will try that tonight.
 
Fenderman you are correct I followed those directions and could move the camera Left/RIght. Appreciate the correction.
