Hi fellows,

I have a few newbie questions regarding IP cams, and specifically HikVision cams.
Planning to put external cameras on my single storey house for monitoring and recording.
I have been looking at Samsung but they were quite expensive. HikVision seems to be a very popular brand hence more peer support available.

Looked on HV website and it mentions 2-line and 4-line cameras...
Do the 2-line cameras have model numbers starting with 2xxx and 4-line start model numbers with 4xxx ?
What is the difference between a 2-line and 4-line cam ?

Also, what is the difference between these two cameras, one selling for $84, other for $95 !
Model numbers are 2332 and 3332 ....

What do the HV model numbers mean ?

The 2332 is a pretty popular model, but it isn't a vandal dome. It doesn't even have any dome ? So how would it be protected from the elements if it is an outdoor camera ?

Is EXIR better than IR ?
Does the EXIR refer to the separate IR illuminator as shown in this camera to the right of the lens ?

Will most likely have more questions as we go ..... :)

2-line are 2xxx, 4-line are 4xxx. If you need to ask, then you need 2-line 2xxx range, which is the economical range.

2332 is the international version, 3332 is for chinese market only. They should be the same price

2332 isn't a vandal dome but is a vandal turret (it is IK10 rated). It's also IP66 rated so is protected from the elements.

EXIR are LED arrays rather than smaller LEDs. So yes, these are better IR illuminator and that is what is right of the lens.

You won't be disappointed with the 2332 but if you need a dome covering the lens then a 2132 is an option.

Although no dome on the 2332, having the EXIR is better in most cases especially since it doesn't reflect the IR back at the lens like the domes have a tendency to do when not put together correctly. Also, a lot of forum members say that they have minimal, if any, problems with spiders and such like those with bullet cams which have a ring of IR leds have a problem with at times.

I think most would be happy to have the Hik cams.
